Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1971 Dodge Sweptline Special (D100) that is an absolute true survivor. I purchased this truck in 2000 from the original owners daughter with 104 miles on the odometer. The gentleman bought the truck new from Bitzer Dodge in Collinsville, Ill on Sept 20, 1971, to "go fishing in." The dealership undercoated the truck when new, the paperwork for that also comes with the truck. He drove the truck home and parked it in the garage with 23 miles showing. He proceeded to get sick and never drove the truck again. It was paid for in three installments, Sept, Oct and Dec of 1971. It continued to remain garaged from that point on and over the years, the owners daughter ended up with it, continuing to garage it until 1999. At that point, she had a local shop pick the truck up for a tune-up. She had the tires replaced due to dry-rot and the muffler also replaced. A couple of hoses had been replaced under the hood also. She put the next 81 miles on it over the course of that year driving it in the neighborhood. I purchased it in 2000 and drove the truck to several shows, and around town a little bit, having put 620 miles on it since 2000. It currently has 724.7 miles showing. When I purchased the truck, I received all the original paperwork on this truck. Build sheets, bill of sales, payment slips, state registration paperwork and more. Specs are as follow Paint - Maroon Engine - 198CI Slant Six Transmission - 3 spd Manual on Column Rear Axle - Chry RF36 3600lb 3.55 ratio I have done very little to the truck since I had it. The radiator was flushed in 2001. In the past year I have replaced a couple of the incorrect hoses and the fuel filter under the hood with reproduction pieces/date coded from Year One. I completely went over the truck several years ago with a 3 stage compound/polish/wax by 3M which really brought the shine back to the paint and removed the oxidation. All the paint is original to the truck, no touch-ups, no repaints, this is the paint the truck left the factory with on November 2, 1970. Otherwise, I've enjoyed it as is, turn the key and it'll crank right up. Truck still has that "new truck smell". It's always a head turner at shows, especially when people read how few miles it has. In several locations, front of bed and behind grille support, there are crayon markings the truck acquired going down the assembly line. In 2005 while washing underneath the truck, I found the remains of a 2nd build-sheet strapped between the brake line and rear axle. Sweptline Special was a one year deal by Dodge, last year of the Sweptline era pickup, basically a bare bone optioned truck, cheap work truck/fisherman truck type deal. I have only run across a handful of the Sweptline Pickups with the Sweptline Special Badging, 2 by pictures only, a third the remains of the truck. A few things to note, the reflector light on the tailgate was there when I got the truck. I do not know if it was factory or if the original owner installed it, but with as low mileage as the truck had, I don't know why the first owner would have installed it. The truck does not have a rear bumper as it did not come with one from the factory. Rear bumpers were an option when this truck was built. It's been in several magazines, included "Mopar of the Masses" section of the August 2003 Mopar Muscle Magazine, Issue#30 of Dodge Truck World Magazine, as well as a feature article in Shifting Gears, Volume 1 Issue 3. This truck will come with a clear Georgia Title. Arrangements must be made to have truck picked up within 2 weeks of end of auction. Cash or certified bank check only, no personal checks. Please do not ask what the reserve price is.
