Vehicle Detail

2009 BMW F800GS in excellent shape, for sale by original owner. Includes the following factory accessories: - ABS- heated grips - onboard computer (temperature, two trip computers, fuel consumption and range) - center stand - BMW aluminum skid plate - BMW hand guards with spoilers - BMW Vario cases (two sides plus top, same key as ignition) - BMW Battery charger which fits accessory plug on the bike - BMW Alarm system - all original keys, manuals, rubber foot pegs, etc. The bike is on the BMW factory warranty for the remainder of this season (until November 2011), and all scheduled maintenance and recalls have been performed. It is the standard (non-lowered) height. The bike has new brake pads and two new K60 Heidenau tires, which are excellent 50/50 road/dirt tires. It is also fitted with a Garmin GPS mount with wiring. Condition: this bike is in perfect mechanical condition. As of today it has 8414 km on the odometer (5528 miles), and has always been stored in my garage. This month I had the 10,000km service performed, in order to ensure that all was perfect for this resale. Cosmetically the bike is also in excellent shape, with only minor scuffs and scratches consistent with riding in the city and light trail riding. Specific items of wear are indicated here: - very small scratches on the both sides of the radiator cover - inevitable scratching of the black paint on the center stand - wear on foot contact point of the side stand - scuffing on both sides of the hand guards - moderate wear on rubber hand grips The fairing scratches could very easily be touched up. The photos were taken the day of the listing (July 12, 2011). I have put a reserve on this auction, but the amount is considerably lower than what comparable F800GS bikes have sold for recently on eBay. The bike was purchased new in late 2008 from Monette Sport in Laval, QC on BMW financing, and was paid off within months of the purchase (i.e. the title is clear). I am in Montreal, Quebec, so pickup should be relatively straightforward for residents of Ontario, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, and New York State. I'm selling because, with two little kids, I never really had time to ride on weekends as much as I'd like. My wife recently started a new job that required us to get a second car, and I'm now the one who ferries the kids to daycare and school (so my weekday riding to work is also finished). I can't really justify three vehicles in our household, particularly since we live in the city and have very limited parking. I think this will be a great bike for someone who can take it out for longer road trips or trail rides. On 13-Jul-11 at 21:41:48 EDT, seller added the following information: Updates:I am now including the Garmin Zumo GPS that is compatible with the mount on the bike (this is a waterproof motorcycle-specific unit that is designed for use with gloves etc. MSRP is $650US)note that the skid plate and hand guard bars have been powdercoated black to match the bike - they are BMW parts (normally silver)eBay provides information on selling a Canadian vehicle to a US buyer here On 14-Jul-11 at 12:01:51 EDT, seller added the following information: More Updates:I have had some questions about plate costs and insurance, so I am providing the relevant information here. This information is obviously specific to Quebec, where as you probably know we have extremely high motorcycle registration fees. The insurance is also specific to my case. Here are the numbers: cost to plate a motorcycle over 400cc in Quebec: $633.55my yearly insurance (40 something male with clean record): $296Don't be freaked out by this if you are not from Quebec - our registration costs are ridiculous (and if you are from Quebec you already knew that!) I hope this helps - as mentioned above, I am also including the Garmin Zumo 660 GPS. With all of the factory options and BMW accessories on this bike, the total pre-tax value new would be $18,256 CDN. On 15-Jul-11 at 08:51:13 EDT, seller added the following information: I added a photo of the BMW battery charger I am selling with the bike. This charger can be connected to the accessory plug to maintain the battery if the bike is not ridden for longer periods (like a Montreal winter). On 15-Jul-11 at 09:33:09 EDT, seller added the following information: I've realized there may be some interest from potential buyers on the west coast of Canada and the US. To sweeten the deal, I can offer to cover airfare for the winning bidder using my frequent flyer points. This offer is good for destinations requiring less than 47,000 Aeroplan points and is subject to airlines' scheduling constraints. It's also really only intended for a buyer who lives somewhere far from Montreal where air travel is the only reasonable option (of course riding the bike back will be the fun part!) If I were to book a ticket today, it would be no problem to get a seat next Wednesday from either Vancouver or San Francisco (17,000 points). However it is possible that, if you can only travel on very specific dates or are coming from a location requiring more than 47,000 points, that I will be unable to extend this offer. I will do everything I can to use my points to cover your ticket if you need to travel by air to pick up the bike. On 17-Jul-11 at 09:46:54 EDT, seller added the following information: I've had a lot of questions like "how much do you really want for this bike". Obviously I'd like to get as much as the auction will support - if it's any guide, the last two 2009 F800GS bikes sold on eBay went for $10,250 US and $12,500 US. These offers were, as usual on eBay, extended in the last minutes of the auction. The bikes in question had comparable accessories and slightly higher milage, and were both sold within the last three weeks. This probably isn't the "steal" that many eBay snipers would hope for, but given that the above price range is less than half of the real after-tax cost of a new bike with these accessories it is a fair deal for someone who really wants this bike. My reserve, which is well below either of those prices, is there for downside protection in case there is improbably low interest in this bike (which does not seem to be the case). Ultimately I'm happy to let the eBay bidding process play out to set a price that's fair for both buyer and seller. On 18-Jul-11 at 09:31:10 EDT, seller added the following information: Thanks to all who have entered bids - we are less than $1,000 from the reserve price. Don't forget - bidding ends Tuesday night at 10PM East Coast Time (7 PM on the West Coast). Good luck!On 18-Jul-11 at 23:12:26 EDT, seller added the following information: Some interested parties have asked for more detail on the condition of the motorcycle, so I am providing here more detail. Q. Has it been in any accidents? A. The bike has not been in any accidents. It has been ridden off-road on moderate trails and thus has some evidence of brush contact such as scuffing on the hand-guards (in photos) and small scratches on the body work (also in the photos). Other than the slight scratching, all bodywork is in perfect shape (no cracks or real impacts). There have been no incidents that could affect the frame, and I routinely ride "no hands" without problem for stretching my back and the bike does not pull in the slightest (a good check of frame alignment). Q. Has it been ridden in the winter? A. In Quebec it's basically not legal to ride a motorcycle from December 15 to March 15 unless you mount a true winter-designated tire (hard to find for a motorcycle). There is no corrosion at all on the bike. Q. Can I get high resolution photos to inspect? A. You can download the original high-res versions of the photos (64MB total) I've posted on eBay at http://www.neurolens.org/Stuff/F800GS_Pics.zip . Since taking the photos I have rectified two small faults that will be visible if you look closely - the tip of the shift lever got bent in a low speed contact with a tree stump in a technical off-road section. I actually found it was more comfortable like that with the various boots I'm using so I never changed it until preparing for resale. I have mounted a new BMW shift lever since the photos were taken (got the part today). I was also able to get a new left Vario case from the dealer due to a problem with the expansion mechanism - both side cases are now in virtually pristine shape unlike the scuffed left case in photos. Q. Has the bike been serviced as per BMW recommendations? A. All service was done at certified BMW dealers around Montreal (either Monette Sport or Moto Internationale) as per BMW recommendations, and all recalls have been performed (front axle, chain). The firmware is also at the current version. I have receipts for all service that I will give to the successful bidder so they will have a full service record on the bike. I hope this is useful - I got a lot of use out of this bike but have been really serious about keeping it in good shape. Happy bidding - less than 24 hours to the end. Another F800GS was briefly listed by a dealer today and was sold at the "Buy it Now" price of $10,895US after two bids, so it seems that a lot of people appreciate these bikes! On 19-Jul-11 at 09:34:14 EDT, seller added the following information: Only 12 hours to go! Remember that the winning bids are usually placed in the last minutes or seconds of an eBay auction. Of the last three F800GS bikes sold on eBay, two sold via "Buy it Now" before the end of the auction, and the winning bid for the other one was placed five seconds before the end of the auction (17 seconds after the second place bid). The average winning bid for the last three F800GS sales on eBay is $11,215. Best of luck!
