Vehicle Detail
This true barn find low mileage 1970 6.3 has been in inside dry storage for approximately 20 years. The car was purchased by my late father about 1972. It was part of a large (50+) car collection, but was one of dad's favorites, driven on a regular basis in nice weather from 1972-1990. My father was a major car nut with one criteria for his rides- they had to be FAST! Ferraris, GT40, Hemis, Superbirds, Corvettes from 1953-1975, Porsches, Buick GNX, Cobras- if it was quick, he added it to his collection. This particular car was one of his favorites. It's last major trip was a month long tour of the autobahns and autostrade Europe in the early 1990s, when my parents took it over on the QE2. The car is fully optioned with power sunroof, air conditioning, velour interior, Becker radio, power steering, power brakes, power windows, power door locks, and automatic transmission. The interior is original and in nice condition. It was resprayed in the original color in the late 1980s. The car was subsequently put it dry inside storage in the early 90s, properly supported under the jack points with wooden blocks to keep the weight off the air suspension bags. It was slowly resurrected starting a year ago by removing the spark plug and lubricating the pistons and top end. After soaking for several months, the engine oil and filter was replaced and the engine was spun with the plugs out until oil pressure was generated. This process was repeated several times. The fuel tank was removed and found to be corroded from the inside, so a temporary tank was placed in the trunk. The electric fuel pump was rebuilt, and all the rear fuel lines were replaced. The fuel filter was replaced, and the fuel system was flushed with fresh fuel after the oil was changed in the mechanical fuel injection unit with fresh Mobil 1 synthetic. New spark plugs were installed, and the car started on the second crank. It ran and idled smoothly, and the air suspension immediatedly rose to the proper level and maintained it. The oil pressure and water temperatures were normal. The car was moved outside for the first time in 20 years for it's photo ops. The following are Youtube links showing the car on start up and emerging into daylight for the first time in 20 years. The are short, and allow another excellent way to see the car's overall condition. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPxxETGumt8&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_Io1o2HV1E&feature=related Pros: The body is solid, with a few rust blisters near the trim (see photos) The chrome is nice overall The car was resprayed in the late 1980s in the original color by an body professional who specializes in exotic and show cars The interior is very nice. It is a grey/brown velour cloth material, and overall is in excellent shape save for a few minor flaws (see photos) The dash wood has an excellent finish All electrics appear to function normally, including all the windows and the sunroof The air suspension rose promptly. It does go back down overnight Stainless steel exhaust system Known one family history since 1972 Always kept inside Clear title Cons: This car has been in storage for 20 years. It runs and moves, but the new owner will need to arrange to transport it home. Although all rubber components (tires, belts, hoses, brake lines and components, air suspension parts, etc) appear to be servicable, I recommend that these parts be replaced before this car is driven. It is not currently registered for road use, and the temporary gas tank is suitable only for loading onto a transport. The AC needs to be recharged/serviced Overall, this is a great candidate for restoration given it's solid body and nice interior combined with it's low miles on the mechanical components. Unlike many other 6.3s being offered with unknown reserves, it is being offered with a modest reserve of $4500, leaving room for the renewal process. Once completed, the new owner will have a nice example of one of the great supercars of it's era. Inspection of the vehicle is encouraged prior to auction end. Please contact me thru eBay to schedule an inspection. Vehicle inspection is by appointment only. The car is available for inspection, but not for test drives as it is not currently registered for road use. We will not ship this vehicle, but we will be able to assist in the loading of the vehicle onto your arranged transport. Deposit of $500 is required within 48 hours of auction close, with the balance due (Bank wire transfer, Certified Bank Cashiers Check, or Cash) upon pick up of vehicle. Pickup and final payment must be completed within 14 days of auction close.
