1979 Volkswagen Convertible 153. 1979 was the last year for the Karmann-produced Beetle convertible, and the last model year the air-cooled cars were imported to the US by VW. I bought this car new in January, 1979, at Chris Motors (VW dealer) in Decatur, Georgia. There are just over 30,000 original miles on the odometer. Zero rust ever. The car is all original except battery, wheels and tires, and oil, fluids and filters. I still have and, if desired, will include as part of the deal, the original wheels, Continental TS771 whitewall radial tires and battery that were on the car when new. I will also include the original Chris Motors drive-out tag, license plate frame and my original 1979 Georgia license plate. The original Mars Red paint still gleams, original sand-white top and boot are still excellent, and original black interior still looks new. The Continental TS771 whitewall radial spare and wheel are absolutely brand new and have never been on the ground. Included are sales literature, original bill of sale and window sticker, dealership paint/trim sample book, owner’s manual, warranty book with protect-o-plate (in my name), list of distributors and dealers, factory tool kit and jack, plus the 1979 Small World magazine which VW sent to me just after I bought the car. This car appeared in the May, 1998, edition of Car Collector magazine, and I will include a copy of the magazine. Clear Georgia title. The car has always been scrupulously maintained; I will include maintenance records and receipts. No radio (block-off plate is still in the dash). The original Bosch AFC fuel injection works as it should. Brakes were completely flushed and cleaned, and converted to silicone (DOT5) brake fluid shortly after I got the car. So, I can offer the following information. 1. I am in fact the original owner. I have the original bill of sale dated January 15, 1979, from Chris Motors, with my name on it.2. This is the original L31B Mars Red ("marsrot" in German) paint. I have the original paint tag (it fell off some years ago).3. The interior is all original.4. I have a clear Georgia title for the car. It is the original title, dated 2/20/79, and it shows my former (Atlanta) address.5. I have the original protect-o-plate (that's what GM called them; not sure of the VW term) with my name and former address.6. This car was appraised in 1994 at $15,000. My reserve is significantly lower.7. Last year I removed the injectors and had them cleaned. I also boiled out the fuel tank and had it lined with some stuff Porsche uses, to resist alcohol.8. All rubber fuel and vacuum lines were also replaced last year.8. Sticker price on this car was $6,394.00 when I bought it new. I still have the original window sticker.9. The car has an original 1979-issue "Georgia Tech Alumni Association" decal on the windshield. I can remove that if the new owner wishes it.10.
