Vehicle Detail

This is a rare opportunity, with very little investment, to own and drive a classic Mercedes convertible as a weekend cruiser and as a show car at your local car club events. And with some very minor restoration, this could be a 100 point concourse car. This is a well cared for, all original, unrestored, Southern California Mercedes-Benz 450SL Roadster in its original and very rare brilliant red metallic paint (code 525), with original parchment MB-Tex interior (code 105) in excellent condition. My wife and I are the second owners for the last 26 years. We purchased this beautiful car from the original owners in Pasadena in early 1985, and were given all the books & records at that time including the original window sticker. They originally purchased the car new from Walters Mercedes-Benz in Riverside, California on March 30, 1979 according to the pre-delivery inspection paperwork, and the cars build date is February 1979 according to the door sill plate. This car has always been garaged and it’s original paint still shines like new. Over the years there has only been one minor parking lot fender-bender to the left front fender about 10 years ago, but the repair work was completed by a local Mercedes restoration shop which did an absolutely perfect show-quality job which is still undetectable to this day. As a long time member of the Mercedes Benz Club, we have enjoyed the attention this car gets on the street, and at local car events due to it's rare color combination and overall condition for a 32 year old classic car. The car comes with all its service records. The engine is strong and starts right up and idles smoothly. The heads were replaced a few years ago, along with all new timing chain, tensioner, and all internal guide rails, and the compression in all cylinders is an even 150-155 lbs. All the accessories work perfectly and the AC blows nice and cold. We have always tried to maintain this car to the highest level, and the only current minor mechanical issues are a slight oil pan leak, and an occasional light clunk in the rear end between shifts when the car is cold, which I know is there, but most people would not notice. The body, paint, trim, and interior are in almost show condition as you can see. There is some normal wear to the lower portion of the drivers seat and the top of the arm rest, and some very small cracks in the dash cover between the defroster vents and the windshield as you would expect with of car of this vintage, but with some minor restoration, this could be a 100 point show car. We are listing this car with a very low starting bid of $2500 with no reserve. The car comes with original Mercedes 560SL alloy wheels and an excellent period correct Blaupunkt Malibu radio/cassette player. However, as a bonus, if the bidding reaches $3500 or more, we will include the original (4) Mercedes alloy wheels with Pirelli tires, and the original Becker Mexico radio that came with the car from the factory. Otherwise, these items will be listed later on ebay and auctioned separately.
