NO RESERVE! I'M LETTING THIS CAR GO AT THE HIGHEST BID!!! For sale is our 2004 Ford Escape. Its probably the best car we've ever owned. I'm selling it because it needs a repair and we already purchased a replacement car; and I don't have time to fix it myself. That said, if I had more free time I'd definitely fix it and keep driving it for many, many more miles. This car has been wonderful to us, if it were fixed I'd drive it to California tomorrow without a doubt in my mind. Here's the issue with it: after it had sat for a couple of weeks when my wife out of the country, my father in law drove it back home from the airport, couple hours. Check engine light came on and it was running rough wife called to tell me what was up. Typically I'd think ignition wires but this car doesn't have any, its coil over plug. Perhaps a couple of the coils went bad? In any event, I should have told them to stop driving it, but I didn't. When I drove it the next day it seemed ok, CEL was on, but I later noticed it lacked power going up a couple of hills, got progressively worse as I drove it (about 20 miles). When its been sitting it will run rough and make a squealing sound, I found that its exhaust gas trying to make it out of the EGR valve. I bought a scanner and hooked it up, says cylinders 4 and 5 have been misfiring. I think probably a catalytic converter went bad in it and that's why its lacking power and sending so much exhaust back up to the EGR. Whoever gets this car will need to sort it out; I'm not a professional mechanic or a car dealer and don't want to make any claims, and I certainly can't pretend to make any guarantees. Whoever wins this bid is buying the car as is, but I think that's pretty standard. Here are the good things about it: This car has been cared for exceptionally well throughout its life. I change transmission fluid every 10,000 miles and the trans shifts perfectly. The engine is in great shape, has good power and runs smooth as silk (well, it did before the misfiring). I've rebuilt the entire front end of this vehicle, it has both brand new wheel bearings, new control arms/ball joints and tie rod ends as well as end links. Any other high mileage escape you look at I can bet hasn't had this done, probably cost you as much as the repair mine needs. Furthermore, this car has very new tires, we got them maybe 10k ago and there's tons of tread life left. Its four wheel drive, that works perfectly. I put a remote start on the car which works flawlessly, even now. AC blows cold. I installed a trailer hitch just for towing a small open trailer, and it has a 2 inch receiver. I have a lot of the original paperwork as you can see, window sticker, I have the original key fob as well. You'll see that the motor is clean, that's how I keep it. Oil gets changed every 3k. Brake rotors are brand new on it. ABS works great. Has all the options you'd want. Interior has a couple of spots but is in wonderful shape, no rips, upholstry looks nearly new. The body is great for its age, has a couple little minor scuffs but you can see from the photos that its in great shape. There is a spot of rust under the driver's side wheel well, but its under not on the side so its not as noticeable. You can see what I'm talking about in the 5th picture. So this one is my loss and your gain. I am really not happy about having to sell this car, I wish I had the time to fix it and keep it. Somebody needs to buy this thing and fix it. I'll bet somebody who has a bit of know how and was creative with finding parts could have this thing on the road in a weekend. Please feel free to ask any questions. Edit: I just looked at the vehicle history report and it says there is an accident. This is completely untrue, my wife got a ticket for rolling into a snowy front yard and didn't hit anything; she was doing maybe 10 mph when she went off the road. The surface between the road and the lawn was completely flat. There was 0 dollars of damage to anything, we backed the car out but she got a ticket for it because the homeowner had to make an issue out of it and call the police. On Jul-03-11 at 06:09:10 PDT, seller added the following information: I just want to add that all the miles on this vehicle are pretty much highway and its been lady driven for as long as we've had it. Also, its not going to be a good idea to try to drive this car to its final destination. Last time I drove it was really hogged down and going slow by the time I got it home, it will need to be picked up in some fashion or another.
