Vehicle Detail
This is a pretty decent old car. I have owned it for almost 6 years. A lot of work has been done to the car but a new car forces sale. I hope someone that appreciates the old Comets will have an opportunity to pick up where I left off. The car includes a lot of parts and I'll do my best to completely describe the condition of the car. It may seem wordy, but I want you to know what you're buying. History: I bought this car from the 3rd owner in Kentucky. The car was originally a 6 cylinder automatic and was originally white with a red top. I don't know who primed it or why. When I bought it it had a 289 with an old C4 trans that was basically junk. The car still had the old 6 cylinder suspension, steering, brakes, etc. I decided it was best to take it apart and start over. Yes, the V-8 mounts, brackets and rubber insulators are there and included. The gas tank is perfect (hard to find for this car) and has been cleaned and painted with tank tone. You'll need to buy a reproduction sending unit. Rear suspension/axle/brakes: A 9 inch rear end on new springs, bushings, and hangers. The center section is a brand new 3.89 traction lock/posi. The axle has new axle bearings, seals, etc. One brake drum has been turned (sand blasted and painted with epoxy paint) the other is brand new. NO other brake components...no lines, wheel cylinders, shoes, etc. Front suspension/brakes: Completely converted to V-8 manual steering. The control arms, springs (stock V-8), spring saddles, tie rods, etc are new. The steering linkage, gear box, etc are new, rebuilt, or excellent used. The front brakes have been converted to disc with the popular Granada swap. New rotors along with rebuilt calipers that are still in the box. Of course, new bearings and seals also. No other brake components, lines, master cylinder, etc. Wheels and tires: I realize the pictures show various wheel and tire combinations. The car comes with the white steel wheels (they are 14" and nothing more than roll arounds) but the front wheels are pretty cool. They are 15x4 steel chrome slots that are NOS. Inside, they are date coded 1968. The tires are rollers only as they are old, but the wheels were in the box when I bought them. Body: It's not too bad considering many I have seen. The car came from Kentucky. There is rust in both qtrs and the seam where the driver front floor meets the toe board (shown by the blue tape arrow in one pic). There is the typical rust at the battery location but as you can see, it isn't too bad. In fact, if you put the battery up front, you wouldn't see it. The rear frame rails are perfect as is the rest of the underbody. I have stripped and painted everything underneath except the area right under the seats. The car is structurally solid. The rest, doors, fenders, hood, decklid, etc are solid. The previous owner tried to add an aftermarket accelerator cable. The hole where the accelerator pedal pivot goes through in firewall was modified. I am including a piece of original firewall and an original accelerator pedal pivot if you want to switch it back. No, I don't have the other cable. Bumpers are new fiberglass and the white is the gelcoat. The original bumpers are included. They'd need the usual straighten and re-chrome. Glass: Side and rear glass are excelent but the windshield is scratched. A used replacement comes with the car. Interior: Well, it was originally red and I think someone wanted to change it to black as some of the metal trim is black and some is still red. The seats are as you might imagine, in need or repair in some form, but they are there and structurally sound. The steering column tube is out of the car (shown in the pic) and the proper floor shift collar is included so you can have a floor shift without a column shift collar. The automatic brake pedal assy is also included. As you can see, it comes with a bunch of parts. Some highlights: A new radiator (it had coolant in it but hasn't been run), exhaust (was on the car when I bought it), and decent exterior mouldings. There are some missing and damaged mouldings in the pictures but included are good replacements for every piece (except the "COMET" inserts in the rear qtr spears) that I have gathered through the years as well as the ornaments and emblems for the fenders and decklid. Not pictured but also included are: driveshaft and complete 1960-1964 Lincoln Mercury parts catalog. If you are the winning bidder and if you're interested, I also have a T-5 (F2ZR-7003-AA REP-AW...second only to the '93 Cobra trans for torque capacity) that is stock and has been resealed with a new steel throw out bearing retainer, bellhousing (stock), new Mustang conversion T-5 crossmember (maybe it'll work with a Comet?), with a B&M shifter for an additional $400.00. OK, Terms etc: Please ask any questions or ask for pictures before bidding. Payment is due within 7 days of the end of the auction. A $500 non-refundable deposit via Paypal is required within 48 hours of the end of the auction. I will be more than willing to keep the car for 30 days or so after the auction if necessary, but payment is still due within 7 days as described above. I will do whatever I can to help accomodate pick up or shipping but the arrangements are yours to make. My zip code is 48353. If you want to know where that is, type the zip code in at www.mapquest.com. Nope, I won't reveal the reserve.
