Vehicle Detail

1986 Jaguar XJS V-12 coupe, black with gray interior. MAJOR PROJECT or PARTS CAR. I bought this beast in '02 from a fellow in NY who for some reason couldn't get it plated there. It was a parts/project car at that time, and I've done a lot of work to it, but over the last couple of years I'm afraid it's slowly been getting worse, rather than better. It's always had the typical electrical problems, but at some point the transmission started clunking while stopped and in drive. Brought it to the trans shop, but it started missing on (at least) one cylinder on the right bank, so never got the trans fixed, and brought it back home to mess with it. Recently tried to start it to help debug the miss, and it NO LONGER STARTS. Doesn't crank at all - frozen starter? Anyway, I've lost hope that I'll ever get it running again, so I'm offering it up as a PARTS CAR or a MAJOR PROJECT. Good stuff: Gotti wheels with 245/60R15 Michelins with very few miles on them. "Growler" cold air intake. Replaced all the fuel injectors (about $800 in parts) in about '03. New front & rear rotors and calipers/pads (major project to get the inboard rear calipers on - see pics). Lots of spare parts, manuals, and a complete "Bible" (Kirby Palm's book, circa 2002) printed out and in 3-ring binders. Bad stuff: Won't crank - probably frozen starter. When running, miss on the right bank - could be anything from a bad plug to a trashed cylinder. When warm, in drive, and sitting still (brake depressed), trans makes a clunking/scraping noise - probably needs a rebuild. Rust coming through some of the lower panels (see pics). Interior nasty with leather stitching letting loose, cracked dash, wood clear coat peeling, and headliner torn out. Multiple, mostly intermittent, electrical problems - wipers, aux fan, heater, turn signals all have been known to occasionally stop working. I paid $2200 and put a few thousand in it over the years - now I figure it's worth at least $500 as a parts car, and wouldn't want anyone to spend more than $1500 on it, as this would only irritate the buyer. So bidding starts at $500, and "Buy It Now" is at $1500. Will obviously need to be trailered, and will have to be winched onto the trailer. Can call me at (217) 622-1915 for any questions.
