Vehicle Detail
West Coast Classics are proud to present an absolutely exceptional and beautiful example of this 1970 Chevrolet Camaro RS Z28 350/360HP LT1 4 speed manual transmission car (not a clone!) with it's original 350/360HP LT1 date correct casting # engine, original 4 speed close ratio Muncie with stock Hurst shifter manual transmission and which was built in Van Nuys, California (Code BL) and born with and still retaining its original cowl tag (trim tag) showing original ‘Mulsanne Blue’ (Code 26) color paint with white racing stripes treatment, a Black standard Vinyl Bucket seat interior (Code 711) with low back style seats and headrest (only year offered) and which was delivered to a Ford dealer in the southern California area where the car was garaged by only two California owners for it’s entire life! This is an early 1970 model (03B - 2nd week of March) and one of only 8,733 Z28's built in 1970 (and even less combined with the RS package) and one of the most iconic muscle cars ever built! There is no evidence of any rust or accidents. Please note that as typically happens over the years, the block was previously decked by a machine shop during a rebuild and the engine assembly date and suffix codes were unfortunately removed by the machining process. However the date correct casting # 3970010 and date code for the engine blocks for Z28's LT1 engines are clearly visible and obviously authentic on the head of the block by the bell housing. The car also has its original power front disc brakes, its original special instrumentation including 150MPH speedometer with 8000 RPM tachometer correctly redlining at 6500 RPM, amp and fuel gauges, electric clock, original dual plane intake, original finned aluminum valve covers, rear deck lid extender (spoiler), color keyed dual sport mirrors and has it original dark gray 15x7 Z28 Ralley wheels with new Goodyear Eagle ST tires. Obviously as an original Z28 the car does not have and has never had air conditioning. Please also note that the car does not have its original 12 bolt rear end but a 12 bolt Posi-traction with 'Special Option' 4:10 Gears, a Trans Am 1 1/4" Front Sway bar (stock was 7/8"), Urethane Bushings, Hi-Performance Bilstein Gas shocks and LA street/strip traction bars. The RPO Z22 Rally Sport package was a factory option designed to make the Camaro a bit flashier and more luxurious. It was available seperately for the base Camaro sport coupe or it could be combined with the SS or Z/28 packages. Standard equipment for the Rally Sport models included all the base equipment with the Style Trim Group stylish additions such as the road-light styled parking lights mounted adjacent to the headlights, left and right front split bumper with color matched resilent Endura grille frame for the unique RS nose, hideaway windshield wipers and RS identification. Package price of the RS/Z28 was $3,008. The Z28 grew out of Chevrolet's desire to field a car in the 'Sports Car Club of America Trans-Am Racing Series'. The Z28's small block 302 cid was increased to 350 cid; however it was a very special 350 cid engine that was virtually identical to the LT 1 Corvette engine. The major difference being that the Camaro had a more restrictive exhaust system that robbed maybe 10 bhp and gave the engine a 360 hp rating. The combination of the new 1970 Z28 body styling with this outstanding motor made the 1970 Z28 an instant classic! The original 350/360HP engine has very few miles on it since a complete overhaul and is matched with it’s original 4 speed close ratio Munchie transmission with T-handle Hurst shifter and it drives like the monster that it is! The car has all it’s original solid and rust free floor boards and sheet metal and still looks unbelievably awesome! The interior, trim and glass are all near flawless. The car was recently inspected and serviced at our local specialists and is turn key ready to enjoy today. This particular example must be seen and driven to be fully appreciated - a seriously striking example which turns heads wherever she goes! The rebuilt engine is extremely strong and responsive with excellent oil pressure and no oil leaks and which sounds absolutely magnificent, the 4 speed Hurst shifter manual transmission shifts smoothly through the gears and the engine temperature always remains cool. The car's repaint is of a very good quality with a very professional finish. The interior is also absolutely gorgeous. This must be one of the finest example's available anywhere of this increasingly collectible and desirable 1970 Chevrolet Camaro RS Z28, with only some 8,733 ever built and with very few original matching # cars or indeed unabused non-drag raced good condition original example cars left; these are very rare birds indeed and will surely prove to be a wonderful investment for the classic American muscle car collector or Camaro enthusiast! A rare turn-key ready daily appreciating and daily head-turning condition example of an all time classic America icon! For further information contact West Coast Classics through EBay.
