Came to us in very nice condition. Drives well, all camper functions work, its clean, good looking and fun to drive. AC, Refrigerator, Sink and running water etc Camper was owned by an affluent Baltimore couple whose helping out efforts included giving it to a well a well known national charity. As aging baby boomers, seems like they just outgrew it. I used it several times this last month driving maybe couple hundred miles . Its comfortable, dependable and fun.Very Nice condition. I’d call it an “upper middle” level quality camper, as Westys go, way well above average …very nice unit, ….but not yet quite in a league with the totally restored from the ground up Westy I saw the other day for $38,500 asking price! Water running well, Fridge cold (we never ran it on propane ), stove burners lighting, portable electric space heater etc Kitchen cabinets and living room - Near mint . Few small scratches. Very nice indeed. Extra nice cabinetry. Every hinge, latch, pull handle, all hardware, all excellent. Curtains –again, all really good. Engine – Limited records show head gasket successfully done at 125K miles. Tune up done at 146K miles. Engine has good power, solid acceleration, fresh oil change not long ago. Minor tune up last year. Clutch is firm and correct. Manual Transmission- Who wouldn’t rather have a manual trans in a Westfalia or in most any vehicle ? Definitely better than an automatic for me anyway. Its certainly easier on the engine. (Note: The long lived, successful, still strong, high miles vehicles are almost always sticks shifts! The reason is simple, though not widely understood. - Automatics transmissions , in addition to usually consuming a bit more gasoline are tougher on the engine. Every time you accelerate or decelerate the engine has to push all that mass of complicated interlocking machinery - bands, clutches, valves and pumps up and down the shift cycle. Every time you stop or start. It’s extra work for your engine. Over the life of a vehicle takes it’s a meaningful toll on your engine life . IMHO, Stick shifts are the way to go for a fresher engine and longer engine life! Interesting , huh?) Brakes – Excellent. Very smooth and fresh. Air Conditioning – Cold and forceful. R134 retro fit. Nice Canvas pop top – All very clean and nice condition. Very fresh. Clean clear fresh canvas. Only exception is a straight line piece about 18 inches (right side) that got caught in the fold down pop top and deteriorated. It occurred to me last week we should have just put a piece of matching color cloth duct tape on it and would have basically solved the problem for about 10 cents! We’ve since “repaired” it thusly, and its fine. Paint and body - Apparently they did an external resto job sometime in the recent past. Body and Paint generally looks great. One or two minor imperfections visible if you’re really looking, (one by the right rear taillights which is often a problem) but overall very clean, no discernable rust, no known accident damage and overall solid A - body, externals and paint. SONY Stereo – Sony Stereo CD player with pioneer speakers. Sound is really nice. Definitely a plus. Nice Remote control included . Tires – Good – very good condition. Maybe 50-60 %. Underside – Well coated /treated with sealant protection. Looks good as you can see in the pictures. Owners Manual – Haynes hard cover Service and Repair Manual Exhaust: Some ceramic patch work on joints and seams. Sounds like a VW! Chrome tip on Exhaust Upholstery – Fully adjustable arm rests on both front seats. Material clean and bright. All the interior canvas, mattresses and pads like almost new . One faint faint discoloration on rear seat, but overall top notch , primo. Carpets – Excellent overall; couple barely visible faint spots. Problems : Right sun visor. All screens are in excellent condition and fully intact with the exception of one small seam that has a little extra space in it. My only complaint – I noticed the other day when I braked abruptly for a school bus, the front end tended to to “dive” a l;iottle bit more than it should. I thought maybe it might need new front shocks, but the local Westy expert told me over the phone its probably a front brake issue or cylinder. Guess its not a big deal. You might want to have it looked at. Remember, No Reserve, High Bid wins . If you just decide this is it and you’re truly interesting in taking the van , just call me. In the interest of selling it more easily, we’ve reduced it for the eBay sale. [It has been for sale locally, financeable, for $13,995 and it’s still here.
