This 190 has been a cherished member of the family for the last four years. It was purchased for my wife to replace her previous 190e. Since then we have made significant investments in this car, always with the intention of keeping it for many years to come. My wife recently became fed up with fuel prices, so I bought her a hybrid, and now this Mercedes is just one car too many. I am very sad to let it go. This car shares a garage with, among others, a Porsche 911 and a Lotus Esprit V8. I purchased a 190e because it is a great car, not because it was all I could afford. The 190e is widely considered a great car for amazingly little money. I personally have a deep respect for the 190’s exceptional mix of great handling, light weight (2900lbs is great for a sedan), safety, and handsome styling. The styling of this particular car is enhanced by a rare German aftermarket rear wing, a custom grill update, 17” OZ Racing wheels, European headlights and lowered stance. Mercedes engineering is second to none. I still own a r129 and will own other Mercedes’ of this era. The car was originally a 2.6 Liter 5-speed. The car has traveled 243,000 miles. Earlier this year I found a Mercedes 300e 3.0 with a Carfax-verified 103,000 miles. I purchased the 300e and swapped in the larger M103 engine for the original 2.6 liter. This is a popular upgrade and a great combination with the five speed and in lighter car. The extra displacement and torque are a great addition. If you currently own a 190e with a 2.3 and/or and automatic and are thinking about doing a swap, you may find it much cheaper and easier just to sell your car and buy mine. With the intent of keeping the car for quite some time, I replaced the following items ‘while I was in there’: All work was completed in March New Sachs Clutch kit (disk, pressure plate, throw-out bearing, pilot bearing)New radiatorNew A/C condenser (the old one was damaged, still have not recharged the A/C though)New front and rear driveshaft donuts (the 5-speed specific ones, not the cheaper A/T ones)New driveshaft center bearingFront and rear crankshaft sealsCam cover gasketCap, Rotor, wires, platinum +4 plugsSynthetic fluid in the transmission, Mobil 1 in the engine alsoSerpentine beltSerpentine tensioner assembly including bearing and rollerTensioner dampnerIdler pulleyNew COMPLETE exhaust including catalytic converters (flow can be restricted in the original cats after 100K+ miles.) New Tires 215/40/17 (The tires were replaced last summer so they are like new.) I run snow tires and wheels in the winter. These could be available separately if you are interested. The car is amazing in the snow. On the even the worst days the car was an easy choice over my Land Rover because of how much better I could stop and turn in the snow with proper tires. No need for AWD or FWD with a car like this (plus a touch of driving ability). Plus it is way more fun in the snow than AWD or especially FWD. The car received an alignment last summer also. This included the replacement of tie rods, steering pivot bearings, and suspension links that were worn. The car received a new steering dampener and new ball joints a couple years ago. Also in replaced in the last couple years were the windshield wiper motor and the heater blower motor. The car handles great on the H&R springs and Bilstien sports. Ride quality is good, and the car is very neutral. The speakers are Polk Audio separates powered by an ADS amplifier. There is a pair of 10” sub woofers in an enclosed box in the trunk powered by a 300watt Rockford Fosgate amplifier. The head unit is Kenwood with an iPod connector. The sub and amp can easily be removed if desired. The body and paint are decent but far from perfect. There are a number of small dents, dings and scratches, but it still presents very well for its age. There are a couple of small rust spots starting. I have attempted to capture these in the pictures. Carfax shows no accidents or other issues, however, the left rear quarter panel had been replaced at some point in the car's history. There are no signs of any accident damage ever to the front of the car or the rear bumper. The car starts and runs great. It does need a windshield as it cracked this winter. Windshields are $200 installed, I just had not been able to coordinate the install with our weather and my work schedule. There are a few minor things that do not work, such as the rear defrost, the passenger seat for/aft adjustment, A/C and the driver’s door key. These have been low-priority so they have not been fixed. I did install a remote doorlock kit with modern Mercedes-style remotes so I never use the keys in the driver’s door anyway. Trunk and passenger work fine with the key (and of course, the remote). The car is offered at no reserve. The starting price is pretty close to just the cost of parts added in the last year. The car and the labor are both free. This is a great opportunity to own a reliable, interesting, fun, and respectable car for very little money. If you want to do something a bit different and more sophisticated, it is certainly a great alternative to what similar money will buy you for an Asian tuner car or a BMW. While this car has received an engine swap, the engines are in the same M103 engine group and differ only in displacement (larger bore). Service and parts will not require any special treatment or knowledge. A $500 deposit is due via Paypal at auction close. Shipping or pickup are the buyer’s responsibility. I will gladly assist with shipping and I live only a few minutes from Cleveland Hopkins Airport. Thanks for looking!
