Vehicle Detail
Are you looking for the power of a Bonneville racer with elegance that outmatches Lamborghini? If so, keep looking somewhere else. All jokes aside, my ThunderDactyl is going to be a hard one for me to part with. I've given her countless oil changes, gone through several sets of tires, even gave her a suitable yet not ostentatious spoiler, and even decorated her with thick black racing stripes from the nose to the bumper and even on the spoiler itself.I was given this car just before my senior year of high school in 2008. We've been through a lot; this car has seen a lot of lively cities and a lot of friends and girls. As an educated car enthusiast, I've done everything my wallet could handle to take care of her. My parents, who drove the car for years before I got it, told me they had the engine overhauled and rebuilt probably a decade ago, so the engine probably has less than half the mileage it's showing.Mechanically, it will get you from one point to another and I was planning to take it to the Carolinas and Florida before I decided I desperately wanted a car with a manual transmission. It has some engine knock which hasn't been any worse since I can remember being around the car so I don't worry about that. The exhaust broke just behind the catalytic converter so it runs a little louder than it would if I had a welder fix it for me - an easy $10 fix... I just liked the deep muscley rumble it made without the pipe being in place (it is still hanging there, only a couple inches out of place). Both the power windows function -BUT- I had to take a hammer to my passenger window when I locked my keys in once (it would have been more expensive for me to miss the motorcycle class I was taking than to buy a new window) but ended up buying a new window several days later. I could never get it attached to the brackets right so it fell out of place often and I eventually just put the window back in it's slot and rolled it up. From what I remember the seats are still in good condition (if they're torn, it's minor) but I haven't seen them in years since I covered them with cheap pleather seat covers. It is also missing the passenger side mirror. When I was first given the car to get around on my daily routine, I bought a Sony Xplod sound system. The system only cost $250 with professional installation at the time, but packed some nice bass and high tones. I listen to rock and metal and am a musician myself... those genres are packed with intense guitar solos and brutish bass lines - I wouldn't have kept the system around if it sounded bad. The last few weeks I drove this car the front two speakers wanted to cut in and out (I'm confident this is an easily fixable loose wire), the back speakers still work fine.Overall, there are a lot of oddball things wrong with this car, but the point of it is to get you from one place to another with decent mileage (I think it got around 20 city miles last I checked) and some good music. I've also had lots of complements on how cool it looks as far as the paint job and home made ram air (which DOES flow air to the stock air box).I have so much history with this car I could go on and on about it, but I'll leave the questioning to the bidders.Since this car does have all the oddball things wrong with it I am listing this *********AS-IS*********. If you want to see it before you buy it, I should be available most evenings if we schedule beforehand. On May-31-11 at 14:21:55 PDT, seller added the following information: She seems like a beautiful car! What, exactly, are the problems with her other than the window, tail pipe, and the speakers? Is there anything else wrong with her? Dear la_eurogirl, I just took her out for a short drive to make sure what I'm saying is up to date and accurate as possible. The transmission seems to be shifting fine through all gears. The brakes are still pretty stiff from where I changed the pads maybe 1,000 miles ago (that's a good thing). The lights are working with exception of the passenger blinker, but that's almost definitely just a blown bulb. As soon as I powered up the speakers they all were working fine... as I said, probably just an easily fixable loose wire. The only real negatives I noticed were: The fuel door has to be opened by hand because the electric opener started to give out about a year ago... once again, probably just a loose wire. I took the dash apart about two years ago to replace it with fiberglass and never got around to it so it's just sitting bare right now, but the piece is in my trunk and will come with it. Two other points of interest: The speedometer is digital, which I've been told it didn't come stock that way so that's very nice. Also, this car will come with its jack/tire iron (w/lug key) and its donut wheel. There are some minor dents in the body, mainly the front quarter panels, from friends backing into me in their driveway. In spite off all the tiny negatives I really enjoyed taking her for a last ride to make sure everything was still running fine. She still has more torque than she should at this age and will have even more with her next oil change and high octane fill up. Trust me, you'll feel the difference. - steelpowerranger
