Vehicle Detail
For 1956 Studebaker, which had merged with Packard introduced the first four cars in the Hawk series . The top of the line was the Golden Hawk with the Packard 275 hp engine. The Sky Hawk was the next in the series and it had the 289 Studebaker V-8 which produced 210 hp or the optional 225 hp engine. The Sky Hawk was followed by 2 coupes which were called Power Hawk ((v-8) and the Flight Hawk (6cyliner). The Sky Hawk has always been my favorite hawk because of its clean design, sculptured door panels and lack of fins. This elegant car was designed by Bob Bourke of the Loewy Studios and only 3050 were made. I have owned this car for about five years and was keeping it for an easy restoration. My plans have changed and I now have to sell as I do not have space at my new home. The good parts of the car are that the frame and suspension are complete and in good condition. The rear end ration is 3.90 and I believe the housing may have had a rear stabilizer at one time as there are extra brackets. I was able to remove the carpet up to the front of the under seat heater. Then the front carpet was glued down. I have pictured the metal floor and the area under the rear seats and the trunk area. The previous owner seemed to be moderately good at metal working and many of the panels looks to be formed with a metal break. The dash has complete instruments and glove box door, but needs ignition switch and radio front. Glass on the clock is broken. Seat covers are excellent but need to have the rear arm rest covers installed and door panels covered. There is included sufficient matching material to more than do the areas which need covering. The headliner is missing one panel but this material is the same as used in the 56 Golden Hawks and is available at the Golden Hawk website. The engine runs smoothly on IV and showed 40lbs of oil pressure but I only ran it briefly because of lack of gas from the small container. The bad part is that the car has a terrible paint job and much of it is peeling and popping off. This car should be taken down to metal before painting. The brakes should be rebuilt and tires replaced as I do not know the condition of either. The car I believe was removed from service because of a bad transmission. Its transmission was removed but bell housing and clutch remain. The car was originally automatic but was changed to manual. The clutch release linkage seems to be intact and also the pressure plate and clutch disk. The previous owner just removed the transmission and drive shaft and never reinstalled these items. If you want to go back to automatic I will give you a complete steering column for the automatic and I am also including a 1963 three speed transmission with the car if you want to keep it manual. A two piece drive shaft is also included as are the two panels that fasten behind the folding seat backs, the two covers for the armrest, two metal covers for the side of the folding seat backs and additional upholstery material to finish interior side and kick panels. This material is the same that was used on the seats. THE BATTERY IS NOT INCLUDED IN SALE AS IT WAS ONLY USED TO TEST ENGINE. The speedometer shows 27,335 miles and I do not know if has flipped over or if a different one was installed. Car has clear Virginia title. This car needs to be restored but it is an excellent car to start with and will produce a beautiful and unique automobile when completed. Car must be paid for within seven days after auction ends. No Exceptions. Payment can be made by electronic transfer, personal check or money order but payment must be made within 7days from when auction ends. All payments must clear my bank before title is released. After payment, car can remain up to 30 days at its present location. I will store under a tarp and will try to store as safely as possible but I cannot be responsible for damage which may happen from storms or accidents. Reserve is very reasonable but will not be revealed. Look at the pictures and you should have an idea what you want to bid. Thank you. MOTOR # V-372420 FIREWALL PLATE--56-K7/# 2162
