Vehicle Detail
This 1959 Jaguar Mark 1 is a model not often seen on account of its limited production run (~4 years/37,000 units worldwide). If you are unfamiliar with the Mark 1s, they are Jaguars first attempt at a uni-body construction. Their most notable difference between the better known Mark 2 is the smaller rear window and slightly smaller size. The interiors are also quite different. While these cars are undeniably beautiful, most are scared off by their questionable dependability and expensive maintenance and repair costs. This is where this Jaguar stands out. It has been outfitted with a 90's era GM V6 engine and automatic overdrive transmission (think Chevrolet S10 pick up truck). What this means is you get the real beauty of a classic 1959 Jaguar without the hassle of maintaining a 50+ year old engine. The engine and transmission in this car are basically bulletproof. When properly cared for, the engines will run forever. On top of incredible reliability, the engine and transmission are very cheap to fix. While an engine and transmission "from a Chevrolet truck" sounds rather crude and inappropriate, they perform surprisingly well and the car has no trouble in either the city or on the highway. We bought the car about two years ago. The previous owner went through all the wiring of the car to get out any bugs associated with running the engine. He also had the transmission rebuilt and the brakes upgraded. Instead of the old and finicky (or very unsafe) Jaguar brakes, the previous owner installed GM (Camaro) vented rotors and calipers in the front while the rear has Wilwood 4 piston caliper brakes. I can safely say the brakes on this car are amazing. This Jaguar came to us from California and we are located in Charleston, South Carolina. I can speak for the rest of its history but this means that the car has been in an optimal environment for several years. The car is very solid. The floors, trunk, and rocker panels are all quite solid. While the majority of the car is rock solid, there are a few places that have some bubbles. Namely the bottoms of one or two doors and a little in one of the fenders but nothing serious or major. I also might be able to put you in contact with the previous owner who had a few spare doors that could be used to replace ones with little spots of rust (if you were that worried about it). On the same subject, all doors and lids (trunk and hood) close with little to no effort what so ever. When they are closed, they are snug and do not sag. The interior was completely redone at some point during the cars life. From what I can tell, it seems to be recent. All of the interior is soft and comfortable vinyl with not rips or tears in the seat. The back seat is fitted with seat belts while the front is set up for seat belts but they were never fully installed (the anchor is there, just no buckle part). With a Jaguar of this age, you get the classic dash and steering wheel similar to that seen in the XK120's of the 50's. This means you have a beautiful wooden dash with large, centered gauges that is accented by a huge stark white steering wheel with the classic Jaguar head in the center. It really is a beautiful and classic interior setup. However, along with the modernized engine, transmission, and brakes, one modern update has been added to the interior of the car. The previous owner installed an after-market Sony CD/Aux/iPod/USB/Radio that is below the dash and completely removable should the next owner not want it there. There are two speakers in the front door panels and two speakers on the rear shelf (below the rear window). These speakers are not intruding in any way (simple and black) and provide excellent sound in the car. However, should the next owner not want any of it, they are easily removable. The trunk is adequately sized and was re-carpeted by the previous owner. The previous owner also powder-coated the wheels and installed new tires. The white wheels (not the tires) accent the car very well. The paint on the car is the only place that has room for improvement. While it looks nice driving down the road, it is quite faded on the roof, hood, and trunk. This may sound bad but in all honesty it's not terrible. It gives the car a nice patina that seems appropriate for a car its age. This also means you don't have to worry about parking in parking lots with other cars or driving it and possibly getting a scratch from a pebble. The chrome is also presentable and while it's not flawless, it certainly has a nice shine that accents the lines of the car very well. To sum it up, this car is a fantastic car. It always starts right up (push button start) and will drive all day if you'd like to. It's incredibly dependable and in the unlikely event that you do need to repair it, it will be inexpensive and parts will be readily available. While it may be economical to use, you still keep the class and beauty of a 50's Jaguar yet it has enough patina such that you need not worry about using it. Final Important Notes:There is no warranty expressed or implied. The car is being sold AS-IS.The car is listed elsewhere and the seller reserves the right to end the auction at any time in the event of that kind of sale.
