Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my beautiful 1979 Porsche 928 Euro (Ole Blue). Color is lite bleu metallic. This car has been my daily driver since February 2006. I bought it here on Ebay so it only seems right to sell it here. The car had 37k miles on it when purchased and now has 77, 254 miles. Since it is my daily driver, it will probably have a few more miles on it. I never intended to sell the car and my grandkids expected to inherit it. I am selling it because of a serious health issue and am trying to finance a “Bucket List” project. I have kept well ahead of the maintenance on this car and at present the only things that needs attention are the AC and cruise control. The cruise worked until recently and I am not sure what the issue is. The AC will work fine if you put a can or 2 of 134 in it. It needs o-rings in all the hoses. That is it. It will not need the timing belt/water pump replaced until 2013. Until then, it will only need the typical oil change and other routine maintenance. · The paint on the car is just beautiful from 5 feet and beyond. When studied closer you will see some fine paint chips which is normal for a car that is 31 years old. · The windshield is new with no cracks or scratches. All the rest of the glass is also flawless. The rear quarter windows and rear hatch window are tinted dark so that the interior quarter panels (black leather) would not warp. They are almost perfect as can be seen in the pictures. There are some bubbles and small creases in the tint on both quarter windows. This is nothing that can’t be easily remedied by someone who knows how to do it. · The gas tank was removed, cleaned and all gas line/vent lines were replaced with new. The fuel filter was also replaced. · The timing belt, water pump and all rollers associated with it were replaced. A rebuilt Porsche water pump was used at first and it failed about 3 years later. It was replaced with a new one this time. · The intake was removed and all hoses, vacuum lines and any electrical wires that needed it were replaced. The rubber under the intake and the boot on the belt tensioner were supple and like new. They were replaced anyway since new parts were in hand. There was no oil leaking anywhere and all areas of work were cleaned. The intake was painted with high temp engine enamel and the timing covers were painted red. · New plugs were installed along with new plug wires, new distributer cap and rotor. · The timing belt was re-tensioned after 1k miles both times that it was replaced. · The fluids were all replaced with synthetic ones. I have used Mobil 1 10 w 50 in the car since the 1st day and every oil change since. · Both hood shocks and rear hatch shocks were replaced along with both window switches and the sunroof switch. · All 4 cv joints were rebuilt and new boots were installed and packed with the proper grease. · The radiator was removed and cleaned professionally and a new thermostat was installed. · A new brake master cylinder was installed along with new pads and wear sensors. The fluid was replaced with super blue racing fluid. · The suspension was next. New struts were installed all around. The bushings were inspected at the time but none needed replacing. On most of the early 928s the front fender sits about 2 inches above the front tire. I never liked this look so at the suggestion of a fellow Rennlister one coil was cut from each front spring with a high speed dremel tool. This resulted in the awesome stance you can see in the photos. New steel ball joints were installed and a 4 wheel alignment was done. · All ground points were cleaned and the fuse panel was removed and all contacts were cleaned. New fuses were installed to replace any that were old and brittle. All the ‘53’ relays were replaced with new and a new fuel pump relay was also installed. · Tires are like new Yokohamas. · A new hatch lock was installed to correct an issue with the hatch popping open. Note: Almost all of these things will need to be done to almost any 928 you may purchase, regardless of year or mileage. The newest of these cars are now 16 years old and if the car is going to be reliable the maintenance items listed above will need to be done. As you can imagine, this can get quite expensive. Since they have already been done on this car, it can be driven for many years to come before any serious maintenance will be needed. I am a member of Rennlist and my user id is fbarnhill. You can go to rennlist.com and go to the 928 forum and do a search on my user id. You will be able to see all the posts that I have made since 2006 about this car. I have nothing to hide. Pre purchase inspections are welcome as are test drives and viewings. I will make the car available for inspections but they must be done before the end of the auction and will be at the buyers expense. I can be reached at 919-779-5536 for questions and/or offers. I reserve the right to end the auction early in the event of a local sale. The car is sold as is/where is and there is no warranty expressed or implied. I will be glad to assist with shipping the vehicle anywhere the buyer desires at the buyer’s expense. A $500.00 deposit is required at the end of the auction via PayPal with the balance due within 5 days of the auction ending in either cash or bank wire transfer. I will accept final payment via PayPal but car will not be released until funds have cleared. If you have 0 feedback, please call me first and convince me that you are serious about bidding and will follow through with the purchase if you are the winner. Zero feedback bids will be removed otherwise. Bid’s from bidders with negative net feedback will be removed. Please do not bid on this car unless you have the funding arranged prior to bidding. If needed, please discuss this purchase with your significant others before bidding. I have a serious illness and do not have the energy to deal with people just out to cause trouble for others. If this is your intention, please pick on someone else this time J I have a clear NC title in hand and the car just passed NC inspection. I carry classic car insurance which is very inexpensive and suggest you do the same.
