1961 Chevrolet Impala Convertible I purchased this car from a private party in California in Feb of 2010. When I bought the car the previous owner told me the car had been garaged for many years, he didn't do a frame off but had it painted, installed new upholstery seat covers front and back, carpeting and new brakes.He also said the car had always been garaged.The heater was removed ,I had it replaced along with a new tinted windshield,rt qtr window, new padded dash both driver and passenger sides, I had the dash repainted while the windshield was out, new exhaust system, had the 4BBL Carb rebuilt, under side of hood redone, all side panels in the interior redone with panels and reflectors from CARS . paint buffed out, new plastic chrome like pieces from Echlers for the taillights and a new Delco battery. The cars 283 V8 starts right up the engine runs good and the trans shifts fine. all windows roll up and down,stainless around windows are in good cond no pitting, the gauges , wipers, radio and convertible top work fine. The convertible top was on the car when I bought it and is in great condition with no rips or tears the plastic window is fine too. As you go through the description please note I am not a mechanic body man. I like cars but can't work on them I have to have these things done because I am not that talented. In my opinion the 60 and 61 Impala have always been my favorite Chevys, since I graduated HS. They are not that easy to find especially a convertible. This cars condition can be described by using the Avg category in the NADA Price Guide. In my opnion it is a sharp looking driver a 10 footer not a show car and not priced liked one but it is a 61 Rag Top. that is great for cruise nights and local car shows or just going for a summer drive for ice cream with the top down.
