Vehicle Detail
Hey Everyone, I recently bought something more suitable for my needs up in the north so the Green Machine has to go. What I have for sale is a 1993 Mercedes Benz 300D 2.5 Turbo. I've had the car for about 6 years. It's a rare two-tone green with tan interior and has about 141,000 miles on it (and some change). In the past two years, I've had the car painted, put on new tires, replaced the radiator, had all injectors cleaned or replaced, and I just picked up the car from the shop for having the blower motor replaced (for the heat/A/C system). I've taken pretty good care of this car. When it needed something fixed, I had it fixed and worried about cost later. One thing to note about this car is that it is absolutely solid and rust free. I'm from South Carolina but have moved up to the icy north (Worcester, MA) so the car spent most of its life down south. This recent move has caused the sale of this car. I've bought something with 4WD and is larger (for moving purposes) so the little Mercedes isn't necessary for me anymore (except for the excellent gas mileage!). This car has a fair amount of options (compared to what I've seen on other cars). Just thinking the car over, my absolute favorite option is the electric rear disappearing screen thing. I'm not sure what it's called but that's what I call it. If you're not familiar with it, it's a screen that's attached to two arms and when a switch on the dash is pressed, the arms unfold and pull up a perforated screen that blocks a significant amount of light from vehicles behind you. The car has no tinted glass so this is very nice and an absolute life saver for night time driving. Now, I'm sure everyone here is familiar with these great diesel Mercedes and their incredible longevity, gas mileage, and dependability. This one has all of the above. Whenever my mechanic has my car he can never believe the shape it was in and always commented on how the engine is just getting broken in at ~141,000 miles. The car gets incredible gas mileage obviously. On drives from SC to MA with a fully loaded car, I can do it in about 1.75 tanks of fuel. That's 1000 miles on about 28 gallons of diesel (factors out to about 35mpg). As for dependability, this car has it. My family calls it "The Little Workhorse" because the car is so dependable and always ready to go and we hardly ever have problems with it. I've done this 1000 mile trip about 10 times in the past 3 years. On these trips, I've had 2 problems. The first time I did it, I had a fuel line deteriorate and need replacing. I got it fixed somewhere around D.C. (from a garage where the mechanic walked out to his diesel Mercedes and handed me some of the proper fuel hose and said "Never leave home without this stuff!") and drove the rest of the way to MA without a problem. Since that trip I had all of the fuel hoses replaced so I wouldn't have to worry about that anymore. The second problem was the tailpipe cracking in half (from age) so after making sure there would be no harm done to the car, I got to MA and immediately had it replaced with a brand new pipe. Basically, this car is a solid workhorse that you can always depend on to start and drive you to your destination in a comfortable manner with a sense of classic Mercedes class. The car just had the blower motor for the heat/AC replaced (at a cost of +$700). When I picked up the car just now, the mechanic did state that the motor and transmission mounts are transferring vibration to the passengers of the car (because they have started to deteriorate) but he assured me it will do no harm to the car and is only a nuisance. A quick overview:Working:Power LocksPower seatsPower Windows (except the rear driver side window, it's finicky)Power MirrorsIce Cold A/CHeatDefroster (works great!)Heated Rear Window (a few lines are out but it still works fine)All LightsAll GaugesDisappearing rear screenRadio (Could use new speakers, although it works fine for my needs) Not Working:The Sunroof only pops up and does not fully open. I haven't looked into it further because I do not use the sunroof. It is water tight though.Drivers side rear window (as stated above)The rear head rest drop switch. This switch makes the rear head rests pop down when you press it. This sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. It is very temperamental.Cruise Control. Maybe I just don't know how to work it but I've never had a need to use it. That's about it. If you have any questions, please send me an email and I will respond to it as quickly as I can. Besides that, good luck bidding! EDIT: The car is listed elsewhere so I reserve the right to end the auction early. The car is for sale AS-IS with no warranty expressed or implied.
