Vehicle Detail
1973 Westfalia Campmobile Camper Bus/Van Up for sale is my 1973 Volkswagen Westfalia Camper Bus. The bus was a tourist delivery bus and spent its first 12,000 miles driving around and camping in Europe. It currently has roughly 109k miles. The miles may change as I will be enjoying up untill it is sold. It was pastel white but was painted a Mazda blue. The bus spend most of its life on the west coast (California and Oregon) and only lived here in the midwest for around 2 years. The two years that it has spend in the midwest it has been sheltered in the garage and never driven on salty roads. The engine purrs like a kitten with dual ICT Weber carbs. The camper interior is in AMAZING shape for its age. The cushions in the back have been recovered in an off white canvas. There is a carpet reminant on the floor over immaculate vinyl flooring. The carpet is not attached to the floor and can be easily removed. Even though the carpet is not attached it doesn't move when the camper interior is being used. There is a new pump on the fauset for the sink. There is a power inverter behind the spare tire connected to an extra battery opposite the battery in the engine bay. The original radio is mounted in the dash and in working order. There is also a Pioneer CD player mounted in the glove box. The glovebox mounted CD player will work as long as the key is in the ignition. The key does not have to be turned to the on postion for the CD player to work. The fiberglass pop top is in very nice condition with a new lighter tent from JustKampers installed. The tent is a 3 window that is tan in color. The bus is a very solid California bus. There is not a spot of rust around the windshield, where bay windows are known to rust. The front floor has no rust and the mat covering it is in awesome condition. The bus does have some door dings, chips and scratches from being used but nothing that is overly noticible. The steering wheel was replaced with a near NOS wheel with no cracks and no sign of age. The dash is in excellent condition. The door panels look as good as new. The seats have no tears but the padding is kind of worn, not horrible but not in new condition either. The headrests were added, they are orignal vw but not original to this bus. They are nice to have on long rides though. The camper interior was not optioned with propane. The rear seat folds out into a full size bed that sleeps two. There is a cot in the poptop that will sleep one and there is a child cot that goes over the front seat and will sleep one child. We do not have any children so we would just put camp gear on the cot that we wanted out of the way. There is a rear facing jump seat and a cabinet that houses the sink, cooler, spice rack, a storage drawer, and a fold out table for when the sliding door is open. The drain for the sink has all new plumbing. There is a stool that slides in between the sink cabinet and the jump seat that is padded and covered with the same canvas as the rest of the interior. Between the jump seat and the rear seat there is a fold out table for eatting or playing games on. Under the main bed/ rear seat is a storage closet. Along side the rear seat there is a tall closet that is used to hang shirts and coats. The same closet has a door for shelved storage in the rear towards the hatch. The jalousse windows are well maintained and open and close with ease. The trans is a 4 speed that shifts smoothly with an excellent clutch. The e-brake is strong and holds great. There are no cracks in any of the glass. The vaneer on all of the cabinets is secure with no peeling. There is a class 1/2 tow hitch hidden behind the rear bumper with a 2 inch exit for the reciever cut into the bumper. The bus comes with the reciever ball and can be flipped for a bike rack. The bus has new hand stitched curtains in blue and off-white. The curtains also have small silkscreened VW emblems on them. The front curtain covers the front door windows and the winshield with a large VW logo on the front windscreen area. The bus has an earlier rear view mirror mounted instead of the later mirrors. The earlier mirrors are lower and are better for seeing around the rear overhead shelve. The original birchboard that runs along the inside drivers panel of the camping area was stained to it was replaced with the correct top to bottom grain board and the German stickers were replace with reproduction ones from Wolfsburg West. The tires are fairly new and the correct ply for use on buses. The underside is very dry and rust free as should be expected with a Cali bus. There is a new stainless steel side step that runs under the cargo door for stepping into the cabin. The black on the bumpers is not painted but is actually reflective tape that they use on ships for the Coast Guard. The tape is very nice quality and helps stay visible on the road. The wheels have nice paint and show very well with excellent hubcaps. The taillight lenses are euro which I think look a lot cleaner than the stock ones. The bus comes with the orignal tail lenses. The bus also comes with the original mustard colored upolstry covers that are original to the bus. I believe I actually have two complete sets of the mustard. I have a folder filled with receipts of things bought and services paid for throughout the life of the bus along with the tourist delivery paperwork showing service stamps from throughout Europe. Comes with the original emissions control system booklet, original owners manual, original Volkswagen Campmobile booklet, original Volkswagen Distributors and dealers booklet, paperwork on the new Weber 34 ICT carbs, booklet for the power inverter, bunch of different wiring diagrams, documents on past owners, tons of reciepts. Recent tune up and oil change.
