Retailing originally at over $50,000, this was the car you chose when the 3 series was too small and the 7 series was just too big. The 540i was perfect, combining space and power. This still holds true today. If you're looking for a cheap, daily driver, that will still turn heads and give you the feel of luxury, this is the car for you. This beast of a machine features a powerful V8 engine, the same engine used in todays 740 series, the engine alone is worth $1,500 and a 5 speed automatic transmission, as well as all of the standard features listed above. The exterior is extremely clean and free of dents and rust and the interior is in equally good condition, with no rips or tears in the dash or seats and normal wear or the drivers side seat. The brakes work, the glass is in good condition, the tires have decent tread, the power windows, locks and sunroof work and the car starts up easily, runs and drives with no overheating. I drove this car over 100 miles this weekend, doing 80 on the freeway, the ride was very, very smooth. Can you say fast?!? So fun to drive. As this is a 17 year old vehicle, it is obviously not in perfect, condition. The drivers side seat does not work, I think it needs a fuse. The radio needs the code reprogrammed, as the battery was replaced (as simple as calling the dealership), the brake inspection light is on on the dash, however, as stated, the brakes work fine, no grinding, squealing or difficulty stopping and the drivers side door handle does not open the door from the inside. This car has 290,000 highway miles. But don't be afraid of the number, the 540 series is known to run well into the 315,000 mile mark, and again, these are highway miles, much less wear and tear. This car is currently registered til Sept 2011 and ready for you to take home. This car blue books for over $2,800, you can get it way under market value. Drive it, resell it for profit, use it for parts for that 740 you have sitting in the driveway. Any way it goes, its a win win!
