Vehicle Detail

This is a great looking, chrome-bumpered example of a European sports car with a five speed transmission, twin-cam engine, 4-wheel disc brakes, EASY opening & closing top, even intermittent wipers. This is the 1972 version which is arguably one of the most desirable Spiders due to the fact that it's the last year with both the 1608cc twin-cam, high revving, "square" 4-cylinder engine and it's pre-rubber bumper original Pininfarina design. The engine's bottom end has good compression and the head was just rebuilt (see below) and will bring many more miles of trouble-free motoring. ALL the electrics work and it’s very reliable. I commute to work with it on nice summer days and it’s never given me a problem. It always starts, even on cold mornings. The engine idles, pulls, and sounds perfect. Click here for a video of a cold start and it's factory air horns!: http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y12/tjcusumano/FIAT/For%20Sale/Videos This car had been repainted in its past to its stock color of French Blue and included a dealer installed undercoating (as visible by the black coating under the rockers). The paint is good (some chips, some swirls), but from 10 feet it’s a beautiful car that you can take to an odd show here and there if you wish, but still not feel bad driving it everyday. Enjoy the summer in a reliable Italian classic. Rebuilt/refurbished/replaced: Cylinder head rebuilt by well-known head rebuilder (~3k miles) - ported, racing springs (isky). Timing belt replaced (~3k miles) - incl. tensioner. New alternator (~5k miles). Brake system (<1k miles) - pads, rotors, calipers, SS flex hoses, compensator, master cylinder, parking brake cable. Suspension - KYB ‘silver’ shocks (~5k miles), wheel bearings (<1k miles), tie rods/alignment (<1k miles). Cooling system (~3k miles) - Sealed/tested radiator, 11” SPAL fan, hoses, thermostat, all hose clamps (runs COOL, never overheats). Carb/Intake (~5k miles) - refurbished 34 DMSA/1800 intake from a ‘74 Spider (all other emissions equipment retained). Exhaust (~3k miles) - new old stock, polished tip option. New top (~3k miles). Synthetic transmission & differential fluid (~5k miles). Oil/filter changed every ~1,500 miles. Later model wheel well liners added. Dash wood refinished in solid mahogany. Panasonic CD/aux-in stereo w/2 Sony speakers. 14” Lancia Beta aluminum wheels with new (<1k miles) Sumitomo summer tires (185/65-14). Stuff that may need attention: There is some rust with perforation in the driver’s side suspension tower. Wheel liners have since been added to help stave off more deterioration and keep out the contaminants (also, this car never sees the light of day in the winter). Replacement towers are available from vendors for (~$235 ea.) and can be a welded-in fix. However, the vehicle is still very drivable and the damage has not worsened since I’ve owned the car (~5 years). There are 2 small (dime-sized?) rust perferations in driver’s-side floorpan (near the heel portion of the footwell) which is currently covered by Dynamat and the carpet and protected by the new wheel well liners. Two ~6" tears in the driver’s seat.~75k miles (77k indicated on replacement speedometer). VIN 124BS10049421 Clean, clear Michigan title.
