Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on my 1979 BMW R65. I bought this bike last year in August. It had been sitting for several years per the P.O. and was not running. I decided to take it to a BMW Master mechanic on the north side of Chicago to have him bring it back to life. Seymour did a wonderful job and replaced, lubed, rewired, adjusted, cleaned, and/or installed over $2700 worth of professional repairs. He's awesome and I have receipts and the old parts to go with it. The bike now starts, shifts, idles, runs, and stops perfectly. Wow, what a smooth airhead. Perfectly synched carbs for that classic airhead idle. The odometer works as does the speedometer. 15,308 miles on the clock. I don't have the maintenance history but based on the pegs, rotor, and the way it runs, I think this is a true low miler. Might be a little more since it's finally getting to riding weather and I'll surely put on a few more. Brand new Metzler tires on it. No Cheng Shin junk. These cost me $150 each alone. The nibs aren't even worn off yet. New master cylinder, brakes, rebuilt both carbs, new Magura grips, new mirrors, new fuel filter, new fuel hoses, new air filter, new oil filter, rebuilt front caliper, etc. The mufflers look like they are brand new in and out. All fluids changed. Fly in and drive it home. I can pick you up from Midway for free. I wouldn't hesitate to ride it to Phoenix tomorrow. Pulls strong in all gears. Seat is near perfect with one tiny tear at the rear top about 1/4". I don't have the tool kit or air pump. This machine only needs a rider and a good detail to bring back the shine. It does have 30+ years of patina and it's got some surface rust here and there but it's a fine runner and ready for another 30 years. Please see pics for the details. The side cover tabs are broken off. Pretty typical with the R65 I hear. I'm only selling this airhead because I purchased a Goldwing and I need the room. My loss is your gain on this one boys. This BMW R65 will go to the highest bidder. You won't have to do anything to this bike except ride it! I got the bike with no title but after the requisite Illinois inspection and much paperwork, I have a clean rebuilt Illinois title in hand. My feedback speaks for itself and I've been on ebay for 11 years. Please don't bid unless you intend to finish the deal and have the money. I know you are busy too. Buyer to pay $500 within 7 days. The balance in cash when you pick it up. Shipping is your option. I'll help in any way I can and I can trailer it to a local shipper for a nominal fee. Please feel free to ask questions. You won't be disappointed with this R65. Thanks for looking. On Apr-08-11 at 10:54:43 PDT, seller added the following information: I forgot to say it comes with a color matching Luftmeister fairing in excellent condition. I also have the mounting bracket and some wiring that was formerly on the bike when the fairing was on it. On Apr-08-11 at 17:15:26 PDT, seller added the following information: Vin # on the frame is 6380155, Engine block #'s are 849264 and 248/MC2. I bought a horn and still haven't installed it. The other horn was on the Luftmeister fairing which the PO took off. I noticed today the push rod seals are seeping. Dried out over the lase 30+ years no doubt. Not leaking but I can tell they are getting old. On Apr-09-11 at 11:19:19 PDT, seller added the following information: I forgot, brand new BMW gel cell battery. Brand new factory BMW ignition switch. newer ignition wires. new spark plugs. I have the box of used parts and some new parts to go with the bike. I have a Clymers manual for it also. On Apr-28-11 at 06:53:55 PDT, seller added the following information: The inside of the gas tank is near perfect. I can't see any rust inside whatsoever. Nice. On Apr-28-11 at 18:45:31 PDT, seller added the following information: I can't get the chrome ring to seat back on the headlight bucket hence the black tape around the bezel. If I get some time this weekend, I'll give it another try. An easy fix at the worst. Just wanted to be upfront with everything I can think of. On Apr-28-11 at 18:55:22 PDT, seller added the following information: Guys, the bike is 32 years old. Please don't expect a mint condition BMW from a "climate controlled environment". (I love those ads.) This bike was obviously stored in an unheated garage for God knows how many years and is not without some rust spots on the frame and some nicks and scratches here and there. I haven't even washed or detailed the bike at all. I'll leave the cosmetic stuff to you. On Apr-29-11 at 14:57:09 PDT, seller added the following information: I have a factory BMW R65 horn I bought for it on ebay. I haven't installed it yet. There is another horn on the bracket for the Luftmeister fairing. I noticed today the pushrod seals on the left side are seeping. Tiny spot on the garage floor. I went on a short ride last week to the post office and on the way back the left turn signal indicator light on the dashboard remained lit. The turn signals all work left and right but for some reason the little light won't go out. Right turn indicator works fine.
