Vehicle Detail
This 1933 American Austin Bantam Coupe belonged to my Dad. I will attempt to describe it as accurately as possible (to the best of my knowledge). When Dad purchased the car several years ago, it needed a great deal of cosmetic work. He and Mom customized the car; it is NOT restored to original. This adorable little car was one of Dad's treasures but sadly, we lost him last year. It will be difficult to part with but we would like for someone else to have the opportunity to enjoy it. To my knowledge, the motor, bumpers, and front end are original but I'm not sure about the headlights. There are no side windows. In one of the photos, you'll notice the windshield wiper is operated manually by a handle located at the top of the windshield. Although the car has been garage kept and driven very little, a few superficial cracks have occurred in some of the cosmetic repairs, and the seat has gotten a small tear in the upholstery (problems that could be easily remedied). It was test driven April 21, 2011 and seemed fine mechanically. I cannot stress enough how small this car is, so I took a few measurements. It can accommodate only a driver and one passenger (small to medium build); a very tall, or large person would not be able to drive it. Approximate Measurements: Outside: Length - bumper to bumper - 10 ft. Width - 4 ft. 6 in. Inside: Width - 3 ft. 4in. Height - floor to top - 3 ft. 5 in. Height - seat to top - 2 ft. 2 in. Height - floor to steering wheel - 1 ft. 3 in. Distance - between steering wheel and back of seat - 1 ft. 1 in. This is a 4 cylinder car with a manual transmission. The odometer shows a reading of 43187.4 (I have no idea as to the accuracy of that). It has a clear title registered in my mother's name. The weight show on the title for this little beauty is 1200. Dad purchased this Austin to fix up and enjoy. It was last licensed in 1988 but he continued to drive it on their property (everyone who saw it wanted a ride). It is a delightful little car and quite a head turner! Good Luck with your bidding!
