Vehicle Detail
This is a 1974 Toyota Landcruiser FJ40 with a Chevy 350 mated to a 4-spd SM420 transmission (with granny gear.) It has power steering from a Scout, as well as disc brakes on the front. Has front and rear lockers (rear is always locked) with I believe Lockright Lockers. Has a 4” lift with a SUA. Excellent condition 35” tires with a lot of tread left. This 40 has a fully functioning PTO factory winch, as well as rear heat, and rear seats. I had the exterior painted a flat tan color as I am not a big fan of the green. The paint job is by no means perfect, but I like tan much better than green. Under the hood and the interior are still green. There is no bondo on this vehicle, and to my knowledge there is no area of the vehicle that would fail the magnet test. There are some dings on the vehicle, particularly the passenger rear corner, as shown in the pictures. Instead of having it patched with bondo, I elected to leave it as-as. Any areas of the exterior that had surface rust were treated with rust inhibitor prior to painting. I have the paint color code, as well as ½ gallon of the paint left. There are a couple of small rust spots on the vehicle, as shown in the videos. In an effort to be as brutally honest as possible, I have tried to include all issues I could find. I had the windows rolled down during the pictures, but they are there and do roll up without problems. I have just added the following parts: Radiator Fan Front Ornament All new emblems for entire vehicle All new lenses New chrome rear hatch handle Toyota radio faceplate cover The Chevy 350 runs without issues and has no known problems. I believe it is a mid 70’s SBC but I am unaware of the current mileage. Never stalls, great oil pressure and has plenty of power. The 4-spd SM420 shifts well, although the 4th gear synchro is going out so it can grind going into 4th. If you double clutch when you shift into 4th it shifts fine. There is a very small leak I believe on the input shaft which is very minimal, but I wanted to mention it. Winch works with no issues. 4wd works great without issues. As mentioned, rear is always locked and the front via the hubs. The wipers work, the heater (front and rear) work without issue. All of the exterior lights on the vehicle work. The steering wheel is a “Grant” steering wheel , and the front seats are aftermarket universal bucket seats with covers. The gauge cluster is a custom cluster with Autometer Phantom gauges. The speedometer and fuel gauge work most of the time, although sometimes they don’t seem completely accurate. The RPM, oil pressure, mileage and temperature gauges work with no problems. Since the pictures were taken, the upper dash pad was removed as it was in bad shape. The only other issues I can think of is that I don’t have a key for any of the locks, and the parking brake is not hooked up. Additionally, the whole vehicle could use new weather stripping. Please look at all of the pictures and watch all of the videos. If you require any other pictures or video, please let me know. I can help buyer arrange shipping if required. $1000 deposit due within 24 hours of auction ending, regardless of whether or not you plan to come pick it up or ship it. Finally, I am not a mechanic, nor am I very well versed in old vehicles. Thus, I can only honestly tell you what I know. Bear in mind this is a 35 year old vehicle, so please understand it has its small issues as to be expected for a vehicle of this age. I have tried to accurately describe all the issues I know of. I drove this during our last snow storm and it didn’t have the slightest issue. I didn’t get close to getting stuck, in fact at one point I tried my best to get stuck just to use the winch. Needless to say I was unsuccessful. I included one picture from when it was green for your review. Reason for sale – I have a 1970 Fj40 that has been getting restored. It is in its final stages of restoration, so I no longer need this one. This vehicle has always been garaged during my ownership. I have 100% feedback for a reason so bid with confidence.
