Vehicle Detail
Here we have a 1959 Lincoln continental convertible up for auction. This vehicle is in great restorable condition with only showing minor rust for its age. This Lincoln belonged to my father who had recently passed away, and this was one of his few projects that he was working on. Let me start by telling you this car has been off the road and parked in a garage since 1971, the last inspection expired April 1970 and up until about 5 years ago this car ran and drove. The last time this car was running we tested the convertible top and all functioned as it should, the top has a glass rear window that is power up and down and the top itself then folds into the trunk as it should with the forward trunk lid closing over the top. The hydraulic and mechanical portion of the top are in good condition only needing the new convertible top fabric. Next is the windows of the vehicle, ALL OF THE GLASS IS GOOD, the side windows and tracks are complete and in place they are just in the lowered position to prevent them from being broken. All of the power windows worked including the power wing windows and rear glass. The windshield and rear glass are also in good condition with no separation or cloudiness. Onto the engine, about 5 years ago my father decided to tear into the engine to replace the timing chain and gaskets (he was a great mechanic and owned his own auto repair shop) shortly after he had the engine apart he was diagnosed with cancer and was not able to finish what he started. Prior to disassembly this engine was running he just wanted to freshen it up as he used to say. Since then the engine has been under cover with all the parts and gaskets in the car to be reassembled. So with a little time and know how there should be no problems bringing this old girl back to life. Now for the floors there only appears to be one hole in the passenger compartment floor in the drivers rear floor pan about 5 inches by 5 inches the rest of the floor pans appear solid. The Trunk is filled with parts for this car so I was not able to look at the trunk floor but would assume it is in the same condition with no major rust. According to my father the last time we talked about this car he purchased it in the late 60’s as a complete car only missing the original front seat. He had drove this car for a few years and parked it in 1971 where it sat in the garage until the early 90’s when he retired and started to restore it. The green paint that you see is the original paint from 1959 and the red is primer. There was some body work done to it but what I could not tell you but it does not appear to be that much considering the age of this car. As I stated prior all of the parts for the engine are here and there are a lot of parts in the trunk so I would say most of the trim is here. There are both of the fender skirts one in the trunk and one in the car. And there is 90% of the interior all I see missing is the front seat and carpet. The rear seat and all of the panels appear to be here also included is a set of very nice 1964 thunderbird front bucket seats that he intended to use in this vehicle. The rear bumper and tail lights are also here. I would say as a whole this car is a basket case but should be 85 -90% complete and what you see is what you get. This is a very rare car from what I can find about it and is worth upwards of $90K with a professional restoration. As far as I can tell this is the longest and heaviest factory produced. With its length being right around 20 ft. So that is the story behind this old girl and here it is up for auction where hopefully someone will give her the restoration she deserves.
