Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Offered for sale is a 1957 Oldsmobile Super 88 2 door hardtop. I will confess that I am just like so many car collector wannabes, buy a project with the best of intentions and it is still there. Here is what I know about the car, as this is the provenance I was given it will be what you receive, and I am sticking to it. The owner of the car went to Viet Nam in 1967, the car was parked in his mother's garage. As he did not return the car sat until the late nineties when she wanted it out of the garage with the original 69,001 miles. The bad news is the garage was not particularly weather tight and pieces of carpet had been stored on the car. You can see the rust patterns in the pictures. The bad news is there is pitting, the good news is there is still solid metal. The good news is since the late '90s it has been stored in my weather tight heated garage. The bad news is it makes some noise when it rolls from the left rear brake housing. The good news is it rolls easily. The bad news is the chrome reverse wheels are not in show condition and are a bit wide for the rear wheel wells, the good news is the tires have good tread and have held air for the last 10+ years. The good news is there are 5 stock rims that come with the car. I have had them sandblasted, though the bad news is too coarse abrasive was used and the surface is not quite ready to paint or powder coat. As well the good news is 3 sets of hubcaps come with the car: 5 poverty-dog dish that will need to be rechromed; 4 standard; and 4 spinners (3 okay, 1 needs work and no clips.) The bad news is the engine is frozen at least when trying to turn it with a socket yesterday, the good news is it still turned over by the key when I first got it. As there is virtually no exhaust system I am sure that it is surface rust in the cylinders as there has been no water in the system and the garage has never gotten down to freezing. The bad news is the body has the usual cancer: right front inside hood, top of hood, lower front fenders, rear quarter panels. The good news I will be including a replacement hood, and front fenders and inner fenders (accommodations for these parts during shipping will need to be noted.) As well I am including a patch panel for the quarter panel behind the driver door, above both wheel wells, the back right rear quarter panel and both rocker panels. The bad news is you can see the ground through the spare tire well in the trunk, the good news is I am including a replacement spare tire well. The bad news there is a booboo above the drivers side rear tire, the good news is I am including replacement stainless strips (do you know how hard they are to find for a Super 88?) Patch panels for the floor are readily available through Classic Fabrications and others. The bad news is fuel has been in the system forever, the good news is I drained the tank when I got it and flushed the system with fresh gas and put Sta-bil in the small amount of gas I put in the tank. And! I am including a freshly rebuilt Rochester Quadrajet with sale. And, I am including a stock tripower manifold with gooseneck. The bad news is you don't see a generator in the picture, the good news is I am including a rebuilt generator. The bad news is you don't see any door handles (this is the reason I bought the car (1 year 1 model only fits). The good news is I am including a set of door handles that have been cleaned and refurbished. The good news is both keys are there and work! The bad news is the glass in the doors and right vent is cracked. The good news is front and back windshields and rear quarter windows are good. In the dash picture you probable don't see a clock I am including one with a delete. Don't know if it works. The bad news is the upholstery is not original (the back seat is), the good news is I am including a full set of seats covered in blast out of the past black naugehyde. The bad news is I never transferred the title to me when I got it, the good news is I will be including the bill of sale I received, a bill of sale for this sale and a clear Illinois title. I accept Paypal for payment. Buyer is responsible for shipping (remember the accommodations for extra body parts.) I will be gone from April 1-17 so please exclude those dates when making arrangements. I will be available to help load. As this is a no reserve auction, plan on paying if you are the high bidder. And lastly, don't hesitate to ask questions AND, THE BLACK 57 IN THE BACKGROUND IS NOT INCLUDED AS A PARTS CAR!
