Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a 1977 Dodge M880 (Cargo 4x4) pickup truck that my father has owned and driven for the past 8 years and is being sold AS IS. He is getting rid of this truck since he has bought a newer extended cab pickup. This truck is identical a 3/4 ton truck but is actually rated at 1 1/4 tons due to the military having additional leaf springs and stronger axles added at the factory. The suspension on this truck is strong and has 4 newer shocks that were installed a few years back. One of the best features of this truck and what made it the choice of the military is the full time four wheel drive system that is run by the New Process Gear 2 speed transfer case. This transfer case offers you the ability to run in Low Lock, Low, High, and High Lock. About 90% of the time you can travel in just High range and go just about anywhere, if you get stuck you put it in High Lock and you are on your way. This truck spent most of its life at the Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, NY before being used by the local highway department until we bought it in 2003. The drivetrain is the standard 5.2 liter 318, 2 bbl, 727 Torquflite automatic transmission, Dana 60 Solid Full Floating rear axle and Dana 44 Solid front axle, both with 4.10 gears. The motor runs great and started at -10 a couple weeks ago. The motor does have some oil seepage/dampness in areas due to age. The front Disc and rear drum brakes and suspension are all in good shape. This truck has power brakes and we have upgraded the manual steering to power steering. The truck has a new intermediate pipe that I put on last summer and a cherry bomb glass pack muffler that sounds nice. The y-pipe needs to be replaced. The current rims are 16" and have 4 good tires on them and I am including 4 additional tires and rims for the buyer. The tailgate was missing when we bought it so I made a custom Oak Hardwood tailgate for it, all of the mounts are still in place if you find a tailgat to put on it. We have replaced the universals a few years ago but the rear differential cover will need to be replaced down the road since it has a small seep on the face on the upper half of the cover. The body and frame are in good shape and solid. The frame still has alot of the undercoating that has peeled up in areas and the body only has a few rust areas. There is some rust above both rear wheelwells and just behind the front wheels on both sides and under the drivers door. The paint is a camo scheme that the Air Force put on the truck but there is the origional olive camo color under that. The paint is good on most of the body but some areas show wear from the past 34 years. The rest of the body has some dings here and there, but overall is in above average shape for a truck that has been used for work and is a 34 year old truck. The interior of the truck is in good shape with a newer bench seat and all of the gauges work in the dash. The floorboards were patched in a few areas before we bought it. If you look at the pictures you will see the gauges after I started it this morning. The brake warning light is lit up but I believe it is the master cylinder because there are no lines leaking, I have a new master cylinder that I planned to put on this spring that I will let go with the truck. All gauges and lights work except interior dome light. The truck is currently registered and insured and has been on the road for the last 8 years and is still driven a couple times a week to get firewood or go to the dump. The truck passed NY safety inspection last summer and if you replace the Y-pipe you should be all set for this years inspection. Please look at all of the photos I have posted and feel free to ask me any questions you may have. If you would like to see the vehicle in person please contact me and I will give you directions. This Truck would be perfect for use as a daily driver or just running to the landfill or a plow truck for your personal home. The buyer is responsible for vehicle pick up or shipping. I am willing to drive the pickup up to 100 miles for $1/mile. A deposit of $300 is due within 24 hours of auction close and full payment is due within 7 days of auction close.
