Vehicle Detail
This beautifully restored 1962 Mercury Comet Custom is in amazing condition and ready to enjoy. From the fresh raven-black paint to the newly upholstered interior, there is nothing needed but a new owner to appreciate this fun and affordable classic. As you can see by the pictures, this little comet is basically a new 1962, with a 144 inline 6 and automatic transmission. She loves all the attention she gets, whether cruising the streets, or parked at the grocery store, and believe me, she gets plenty. Everyone that sees her just seems to fall in love. It's funny, because it's not like she's a t-bird, or vette, or 57 chevy... and maybe that's the point. While the Mercury Comets were very popular and fairly common cars in their day, they weren't the high dollar restoration candidates that you now see at every car show. The fact that most of them have long been salvaged or crushed, means that the remaining survivors are surprisingly rare and climbing in value. Case in point... I drove my little batmobile to its first cruise night car show in Clearwater Thursday, where there were a total of 82 registered, many that would easily go for 70 or 80 grand, but again, they're the same cars you'll find at any cruise night, which was fine with me. I wouldn't particularly want to park my 57 chevy between two other 57 chevys, right? So anyway, they presented a total of 12 trophies, one of which you can see proudly displayed on my back seat! The lowly comet had become so unusual and charming that it seemed to capture the judges eye. Of course the fact that the color combination is so amazingly vibrant doesn't hurt. There's nothing that stands out more than black over red, and the ivory accents of the "Custom" trim level just set it off all the more. I guess my point is that you don't have to mortgage your home to have a great classic that you'll be proud to own or show. It's hard to believe she'll turn 50 next year. Certainly doesn't look it with the new paint, newly chromed bumpers, new seats, new door panels, new carpet, new mats, new headliner, new window cranks, new door handles, new dome light, new under dash led lighting, new rims, new tires, new monroe shocks, new gas cap, new trunk liner and totally redone engine, all with original, nos, or reproduction parts. The car starts beautifully, drives wonderfully, and stops faithfully. It's arrow straight and has absolutely no rust or like issues. It is particularly difficult for me to sell this comet because it is identical in every way to my very first car, so it won't break my heart if it doesn't go, but I do have some other obligations and other vehicles so I've resigned myself to the possibility that it's time someone else had a chance to have as much fun with her as I have. That's why I'm offering it with a low starting number and NO RESERVE. Best of luck to all, and thanks for looking. P.S. ... I'm keeping the trophy :)
