Vehicle Detail
I am the 2nd and 4th owner (daughter in law drove for awhile) of this very nice 64 Valiant Signet I bought while living in San Jose California back in 1996. No rust anywhere except at windshield (see pics) and at the very bottom edge of front fender. Grace Durham was the original owner and yes she was a little old school teacher. She had let it sit under her carport for decades and so 1/2 of the Fawn Gold paint was completely faded away. The body has been spray bombed with white primer paint just to cover it up and make it one color. Had 39,000 original miles on it when I bought it. Since then I have installed Plymouth Duster Kelsey Hayes front disk brakes, had the trans rebuilt, new 14" tires, exhaust, etc. Installed a factory rear defrost and electric trunk release. Recently changed to a Mopar brand mini-starter that works great and would highly reccomend. About 4 years ago I had a new later model slant 6 engine installed that was professionally rebuilt by a local engine shop. Has the standard 7 1/4" rear end. Everything works, the wipers, heater, brakes, lights, radio, etc. The gas gauge moves but is not accurate. Rest of the gauges work fine. I recently changed the ignition to a GM style with electronic ignition. Works much better than Mopar style. Also did the Dan Stern headlight conversion so there is no problem driving at night. All of the sheet metal is original and has a few dents at hood, driver side fender and trunk to keep it from being perfect. Car is missing 3 pieces of trim. One hood piece, one emblem and one window/door seal. Original windshield is good and not de-laminated. Seals are very old. The interior is worn but all original except the front bucket seats which are from a 63 Dodge Dart and worn out. Carpet is just about gone in the front. The headliner has a couple of holes from a family of mice living there. Dash pad is cracked but original. No extra holes drilled anywhere in dash floor or underhood. The front floorboard has been sealed with POR-15 because of a water leak at windshield. Like I said earlier there is no rust that I know of except what I mentioned. When I checked it the car got about 20mpg and drives straight and without any trouble. Check the picture of the gauges. I am sure there are some things I overlooked and will be glad to send pictures or answer any questions. I would not be selling except I recently bought a 62 model and can't stand to see this one left outside. Plus the wife hates it. This really is one of those cars you could get in and drive anywhere. Going to several car shows this spring and could deliver if needed. Going to spring Carlisle, spring Charlotte and Mopar show at Dinwiddie Va. Will need advanced payment and gas fee for doing so. Also have the car listed locally so I will end auction early if my price is met.On Feb-26-11 at 20:35:51 PST, seller added the following information: Forgot to mention car has manual steering and manual brakes. On Feb-27-11 at 17:03:30 PST, seller added the following information: Just wanted to answer a few e-mails from today and I added some pictures about same.. I think the engine is a 1976 model, has less than 5,000 miles since rebuild maybe less than 3,000. Don't remember. Both bumpers are pretty straight and look okay. Both have a dent that shows in the pictures and the rear definately needs rechromed. The pictures of the car as all white is from a year ago. The black top came from a slow day at work. The top of the back seat has duct tape on it. The trunk was POR-15'd about 2 years ago. Had water in the trunk twice after a bad rainstorm. Looks like from the rear window gasket. Added a picture of the right front fender rust spot. The passenger side is okay for now. Like I said in the description it is solid mechanically but lacks cosmetically. If you have any questions just ask I don't mind at all. Thanks
