This is an original and 100% rust free California Jeep. When we did our initial inspection of this vehicle, the technician listed some interesting points. There are numerous items that indicated a fleet or industrial history, versus private use: First, the Southern Pacific logos combined with a fleet maintenance number under the hood (J-319), then a very industrial-look hard top + doors, an external hood lock plus a unique lighting fixture in the spare tire. We did some research and concluded that this Jeep was used by Southern Pacific Lines as a Maintenance of Way vehicle. The inspection showed that this vehicle was serviced properly for a long period of time, then garaged for approximately the past 15 years. We performed a start up regimen (tune up / hoses / tank flush, etc) to bring it back to operating status, and it is a strong and smooth performer. The engine runs great: runs at proper temperature for extended periods, no smoke, no noises--proper operation. The transmission, clutch, rear axle and four wheel drive system operate properly: synchronizers good / bearings good / four wheel drive engagement good-- ready to go. The brakes stop well and feel great. The tires are at 60-75% tread and look great also. This is a very basic vehicle, so there is not much more to say about operating systems. Overall condition indicates long term ownership and strong maintenance. The odometer reading is 89,320 miles which we believe to be the total original mileage as evidenced by a lack of grease build up on major drive line components. The paint, in our expert opinion, is largely original: not perfect (small scratches /nicks, etc) but no dents or damage so it is 100% usable as is. The interior is very basic and in tidy condition. The seats are in great shape and show virtually no wear. The Jeep still bears both of it's original "blue and yellow" correct front and rear license plates that verifys it's California registration history since new.This unique Southern Pacific Survivor definately represents a piece of automotive and locomotive history.
