This is a 1953 MG TD MkIIOne of VERY FEW Extremely RARE MGsTruly a part of HistoryPerfect MG for the MG History FanA "Head Turner" on the streets This RARE car is a Black/Red Interior 1953 MG TD MkII. It is originally a Texas car and has always remained in Texas which means it has never been subjected to SALT or RUST due to bad weather. This MG has a set of ANTIQUE 1953 Texas License Plates mounted on it which will go with the car to the new owner. The Large Square Plate mounted on the battery box under the hood reads: TD/C 21415 EXL/NA XPAG/TD3/21805. The data indicates that the vehicle is a LEFT HAND DRIVE EXPORT model intended for shipment to the United States. Just under the large plate, on a Smaller Plate is inscribed: Body Type 22381, Body # 20779/94898. The numbers stamed on the Engine Boss are 18648. The first owner of the car was Mr. C.B. Tate of the State of Texas. Mr. James Fleming of New London, Texas was the second owner. The last owner of the car was Mr. Rinehart of Grayson County, Texas. We are selling the vehicle for Mr. Rinehart's estate. Research has been done through the MG Car Club and in May 1996, Mr. Ian Rendle, Business Administrator of the MG Car Club provided a copy of the original factory chasis log file which indicates this car, EXLNA 21415, XPAG/TD3/21805 (TD/C) was completed and shipped on October 29, 1952. For the potential buyer that is not familier with the manufacturing dates, model numbers, etc., we will list here a short data reference published by MOSS MOTORS in their October 5, 1998 Anniversary Edition of the parts catalog dealing with the T-Series MG's. The information below is a direct quote from their magazine. "TD1 Production Period was from November 1949 through August, 1951 with engine numbers TD0251 through TD9158. TD2 Production Period was from August 1951 through September 1953 and included cars with numbers TD9159 through TD29915. TD2 vs RD MkII--the TD2 was the standard production car from September 1951 and marked the introduction of the 8 inch clutch assembly which made engines non-interchangeable with earlier gearbox units. Engines with XPAG TD2 prefixes should not be confused with TD MkIIs which use the XPAG TD3 or TDC engine prefixes. The MG TD MkII was the rare 'competition' variant of which 1,710 were produced from 1950 to 1953 (according to one source--fewer according to others). Principle features included twin fuel pumps, larger SU carburetors, larger valves and an extra set of Andres friction shock absorbers." This RARE TD MkII runs very good. It will make someone a fine little driver. It has no rust and no dents or dings other than the normal ones found on any driver. The "weakest" part of the car (in our estimation) is the paint and carpets. The carpets are not original. Although the metal on the car is solid, the paint is weak. There are scratches on the doors, fenders, light buckets, and all the normal places you would expect to see them on a "driver." No major body work would have to be done to paint it. The only things on the car that are not MG are the carpet as we have previously mentioned, the steering wheel which is from an MGA (we have the correct MG TD steering wheel that is off the car at present that will come with the car), a modern oil pressure gauge mounted in parallel unobtusively under the dash to double check the old system when the car was first cranked, and two exterior rear view mirrors that have been mounted in original holes in the car and have not modified the original vehicle in any way. This RARE vehicle comes with a large array of authentic MG parts ranging from a driveshaft, steering wheel, wings, trim pieces, and manuals and documents. The last few pictures in our picture gallery show some of these parts though most of them are boxed or in some sort of wrapping. Obviously we cannot duplicate this vehicle. It is a RARE ONE OF A KIND deal. We have done our very best to give you not only a description of the vehicle and a condition report, but also a HISTORY LESSON and Production data to enlighten you as a prospective buyer.
