Vehicle Detail
Here’s something very special….. A 1970 Dodge Challenger. I recently purchased a number of cars from the estate of a noted Florida collector and each will be offered on Ebay over the coming weeks. This is a 1970 Dodge Challenger that has been sitting for many years in an enclosed warehouse/museum. It appears that restoration was started but not completed. Please Note: I am not a Mopar expert by any means, so I encourage you to come inspect this car personally or to ask any questions you might have. Keep in mind that any inspections must be completed prior to auction ending. Once the auction has ended and the reserve has been met the sale is final as stated below. Title: I have the California Title and current Registration in hand and both are in my name. Here are the details as best as I can tell: Body: The car is painted Plum Crazy Purple and the body panels all appear to be in good condition. There are various chips and scratches and a few dings as well. It is an older paint job and there is some evidence of poor prep in a few areas. I am uncertain to what extent any body work may have been done previously. I don't know if Purple is the original color or not, as I can see a small area of blue paint on the lower firewall. The car has the R/T hood, emblems, optional Road Wheels, exhaust tips and fuel filler flip-open gas cap, but I have no idea if it is truly an R/T or not. The Frame appears to be in good condition and I don't see any rust issues. The floors and suspension components appear to be in good shape, but I am unsure if there have been any repairs to the floor pan previously. All glass appears to be in good shape and the bumpers have some minor pits. The vin on the top of the cowl also matches the dash. There is no option tag under the hood, but those are available reproduction. The car also has Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, Optional 14x6 Road Wheels, AM Radio, Sport Steering Wheel, Chrome Sport Mirrors and Tinted Glass. The VIN tag is in place on the dash and reads: JH23G0B399375 Interior: The interior is White in color. The dash pad is cracked and will need repair and the seatbelts and drivers door panel are missing. The seat covers and headliner have rips as well. In other words, the car will basically need a complete new interior. There are also extra parts in the trunk that go with the car. Engine/Transmission Details: The engine is a 340 with 340X heads which I've been told are fairly rare and sought after. My mechanic replaced the fuel tank and tuned the car and it seems to run pretty well. I have only moved the car up and down my driveway so I have no idea how roadworthy the car is. The codes I have found on the engine are as follows: Intake Manifold: 3462848 with a 08069 date Carter Carburetor: L7 4401S Block: 2780930-340-5 Automatic Transmission Summary: This would make an excellent project for someone who wants to take their time and restore it properly. It is very presentable and ready for a new owner. The car's history and mileage is unknown. Sold in AS-IS Condition: I want to be very clear about this car. This car will need work and I am certain there will be missing and damaged parts that will need to be located and purchased to make it complete. It will need interior parts, misc engine parts, weatherstrips and other unknown items. Restoration work appears to have been started by the previous owner(s) but it was not completed. That said, this vehicle is being sold in absolutely AS-IS condition with no warranty of any kind whatsoever and the sale is final. There is no expressed or implied warranty as to the condition or completeness of the vehicle. Inspections are welcomed and I will do my best to answer any questions you may have. High bidder will be responsible for pick-up and transportation at their expense which must occur within 3 weeks of purchase. Payment for vehicle must occur in full within three (3) business days via wire or cashier’s check. Failure to make required $1000 Deposit Payment within 48 hours of listing close shall result in car being offered to the next highest bidder or party of the sellers choosing. Good luck and Bid to Win!!On Feb-11-11 at 10:33:10 PST, seller added the following information: As a reminder, I am not sure if this car is or is not an R/T. I've been told it's NOT an R/T, because the second digit in the vin is an H for high, not a S for special. Also, suposedly all R/Ts came with the Rallye gauge cluster. Finally according to the Vin number, the "G" also means that it came originally with a 318 engine. It does have a 340 engine in it now according to the casting number. That said, bidders should do their own howework on this and bid accordingly. Thanks and good luck to everyone. On Feb-18-11 at 11:16:14 PST, seller added the following information: Someone asked about driving this car a long distance. The tires are very old and I wouldn't drive it until new ones are put on. I can't vouch for the mechanicals and/or driveability. My mechanic tuned it, changed oil, rebuilt the carb and put a new gas tank in because the old one had residue from sitting. It looks like it has a new complete exhaust system with new pipes, mufflers, hangers and chrome tips and my mechanic believes the front disc brakes were also previously rebuilt as the rotors, pads and calipers look pretty new. The body seems pretty straight to me and I don't see any bubbles, etc at the bottom of the fenders, quarters doors, etc. However, as I noted, I didn't paint the car and don't know what body work (if any) may have been done in the past. It still needs door weatherstrips, trunk weatherstrip (in the trunk) and door locks installed (also in the trunk). Good Luck to Everyone.
