Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 57 220S for restoration. This Mercedes was purchased by the original owner, Colonel Lloyd Rall, in Germany on June 7, 1957 for $3095.22 and shipped to the USA in August 1957 to his residence in Alexandria Va where the car remained. I have the original bill of sale and loads of other documentation including a personal record book from 0 miles to current 88722 which included each time fuel was added, oil changes and other misc service work. There is an oil change sticker on the door indicating mileage of 88014 dated 08/11/73, just 758 miles in 30 years as the car was last driven in 2003. The Colonel passed on and I bought the car from the estate last year 03/10/10 with the intention to restore since it was a very solid original car. I haven't done a thing to it other than roll it out of the garage to take some pictures and decided to sell it. It still has the original paint with the exception of the passenger front and rear doors. Not sure what the damage was, but both doors operate with that famous Mercedes door "clunk" There is some damage to the front right front fender and a scrape/dent on the left front fender as shown in the pictures. All the woodwork was refinished in 93. Brakes updated in 95. Fuel tank was removed and cleaned in 2003. I have not driven the car on the road. I did start it before I bought it and it seemed to run ok. Some misc parts come with it such as the replacement air duct with heater core on the passenger side. The windshield rubber seal will need replacement as well as the upholstery. I think the car was garaged most of its lifetime as underneath is pretty dry. I have a clear title. The car is available for inspection most of the time and I encourage anyone serious about the car to do so. I have the car for sale locally and may end the auction early if reserve not met. Send me an email if you have any questions.
