Vehicle Detail

Hello and thanks for looking at my auction. My name is Joe and I am a licensed wholesaler offering traded in and off lease vehicles directly to the public. Buying your next car through one of my NO RESERVE auctions could save you thousands over retail by cutting out the expense of the fancy lot, salesmens commission and all the other bull you end up paying for. I personally test drive each vehicle so I can tell you first hand how it looks, runs and drives. My descriptions are my honest opinion of each vehicle. The information contained within this description is true and correct to the best of my knowledge and ability but cannot be guaranteed as I am not a mechanic. Questions and personal inspections are welcomed and encouraged. An administrative fee of $99 will be added to the final bid amount of each auction. Up for a NO RESERVE auction is a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am GT coupe with manual transmission. This GT model is finished in green and looks very good. Other than some minor fading on the rear spoiler, the car looks great. The paint shines nicely and there are no noticable dents or scratches and NO RUST. All the tires have good tread and are set on nice alloy wheels specific to the GT model. All the glass is in tact including the sunroof. This is a good looking sports car. The interior is in nice shape, too. The seats are comfortable and have no rips or stains. The carpets are clean and the headliner is nice, too. This Grand Am is equipped with power windows, locks, mirrors and sunroof. The CD stereo sounds good and it looks like it is wired for an amplifier in the trunk already. The climate control works as it should, too. Mechanically, this car will need some attention. When I went to drive it home, I noticed a noise in the engine above 1,800 rpm. The 2.4L engine will start right up and idle smoothly and quietly. It makes a tapping sound when you rev it up close to 2,000. I never took the engine past that point to prevent further damage. The Quad4 engines are known for spinning rod bearings from being run low on oil but I checked the oil and it was full...and the engine noise sounds like it's coming from the top end. I've talked to several mechanic friends about this car. The most viable explanation is a broken lifter. If it were a rod, you would hear it "slap" the crank when you leave off the throttle and the momentum of the crank slows faster than the rod. I doubt it's the timing chain tension because it doesn't sound like chain slap. To me, it sounds like a top end noise which leads me to believe it's a lifter. I could be wrong, but I feel pretty confident. The clutch felt good. I really didn't get to road test it to see how the suspension and brakes felt. I intended to fix the car but I just don't have time to do it. It's taking up space in my warehouse and I would like the Grand National to be in the space this car is in so I'm gonna sell the Pontiac just how I got it. I've sat on this car for a while...it's time to move on. The car does run and drive but should probably be towed to prevent further damage. An entire used engine can be had for under $500 worst case. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.
