1998 Volkswagen Passat for sale. Black exterior with tan interior. 124k miles. 1.8T 4 cylinder engine (has had the timing belt replaced and the tensioner updated in the last 10000 miles. 5 Speed manual transmission. Power windows, mirrors, sun roof, heated seats, and VW roof racks. Car starts, runs, and drives but needs several things to pass both the safety and emissions inspections (it is currently garaged in Prince William County VA, so it has to pass emissions here – you may not need it in your county or state, also the current safety inspection is expired). Currently, the turbocharger is not working. The impeller bearing has burned out so it is essentially running as a 1.8L – kinda like the old 80’s VW’s. The top linkages on the front suspension need to be replaced. I purchased a brand new linkage arm kit (basically replaces all the control linkage parts) but never got around to replacing it, and now we have a new car so basically this would make a good project to fix up and drive or I suppose you could part it out, but the engine (especially with the timing belt replaced) should last at least another 60,000 or more miles. The car has had the front and rear wheel bearings replaced since I bought the car back in 2006. The car also has an exhaust leak somewhere and the check engine light is on. There was also a problem with the ABS control units on these cars blowing out – the car still brakes and stops, but the ABS light blinks on the dashboard. There is a fix for the unit, if you google it, you will find shops that will repair the unit instead of buying a new one. It will need new tires as well. It is also missing a hub cap and we were never able to get the radio code since we have owned it. Basically, it needs a good going over and a few items addressed, and it could be back on the road and ready to go. Being sold as is. Comes with the roof racks. Also have the Bentley repair manual (the good one) as well as some new replacement parts. The vehicle may need further work than what I have listed. Once I knew the turbocharger was out, I decided that at this point we would just replace the car, so no further work was done to find out what else it might need and now we need the car gone so we aren’t still paying insurance on the car and can free up a parking space. The roof racks, Bentley manual, and replacement parts are worth at least $400 by themselves. Please no low-ballers. Thank you. NOTE: The plastic covering on the drivers seat was put on there from when we had the car washed and the interior cleaned. ALSO NOTE: You will need to either drive the car away or bring a tow dolly/car carrier. I cannot assist with shipping or moving.
