Vehicle Detail

HONDA GOLD WING GL1100 - 1983 You are bidding on a used 1983 Honda Gold Wing GL1100. Please read the entire description before bidding. If you have questions please ask them before bidding. *Short history: I bought this motorcycle used on March 16, 1995. It had 57,300 miles on it at the time. I rode this bike until 6 years ago putting 14,258 miles on it. In late summer of 2004 it developed a brake problem. Other priorities in life caused the bike to slide farther back in the garage. I have now decided it is time to make a change to my life style and keep four wheels underneath me from now on. *Brakes: I originally thought the rear brake caliper had something wrong with it and I removed it so the motorcycle could be moved. I still think there is something wrong with it. I also wired the foot brake pedal up so it would not accidentally press brake fluid out of the system. If I was repairing the motorcycle myself, I would probably buy a new rear wheel cylinder for it and replace it instead of rebuilding the old one, and I would install new brake pads front and rear. I have since found out that the brake problem is probably a relatively minor issue in that the master cylinder has a tiny vent hole and becomes clogged easily. I found this information on a Gold Wing forum on the internet. I don’t know for sure that this is the only thing wrong with it. Here is the link to the forum that explained the master cylinder problem: http://www.msgroup.org/forums/mtt/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9182 As far as I know that should cure the brake problems. *Exhaust: The left muffler has a hole in it. It was patched with a muffler repair kit. *Engine: The engine ran fine the last time I had it out, but it has stale gas in it now. I added new gas and Lucas fuel additive and used ether to start it. It would run on ether and did idle for a little while. *Trim: The dealership I bought this from told me that the previous owner was the original owner and had a sidecar attached to it. The right hand saddle bag bar was cut near the bottom to accommodate the side car mount. It does have a piece installed and bolted back together. It is very near the bottom and not really noticeable. There are some fine swirl scratches in the paint. The front radiator trim has some notches cut in where other accessories had been mounted previously. The saddle bags and saddle bag lids are not cracked. The saddle bag liners are with the motorcycle as well. The chrome is not all in perfect condition nor is all of the aluminum. There is a home made trailer hitch as well as some other after market trim pieces and lights that go with the motorcycle. Not all of the after market lights work though. There might be other small things wrong with this motorcycle that I don’t know about but it is old. But do remember you are buying a motorcycle to fix and enjoy without spending nearly $20,000.00. *Windshield: The windshield has always cleaned up well with canopy polish. It is an extra tall windshield that was on the motorcycle when I bought it. *Tires: The tread on the tires is good but they have been on the bike for a long time, there are no visible weather checking or weather cracks and they both are holding air. Again if it were me I would replace them just to feel better. *Title: I do have a clean Ohio title ready to go. *Note: To my knowledge this motorcycle has never been in an accident. *Shipping: As far as shipping goes I would prefer this to be a local pickup, but if you want to send a carrier after it I can and will assist with the loading if needed. *Pictures: You should be able to click on this link http://1983hondagoldwing.shutterfly.com/ and open 66 pictures of this item.
