1974 Land Rover Series III RHD 88” with overdrive Marine Blue, Limestone, good, unrestored condition, 93,605 miles Here is nice example of a right hand drive Series III Land Rover 4 wheel drive. It was imported into the United States from England on February 14, 2002 and presently resides in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. It is unrestored and has been well-maintained. We enjoy having the Land Rover for the back roads and expeditions through our farm pastureland and wooded trails. This Land Rover is equipped with the very desirable Fairey overdrive unit. This gives an amazing range of 16 forward speeds, and is extremely easy to operate. The transmission, and 4 wheel drive works perfectly, as do the locking front hubs. Other features include the folding jump seats in the rear, and sliding glass windows with new felt channels. Tires are Bridgestones of the correct size and in nice condition. The battery is a desirable Optima. There is a spare wheel on the hood as you can see from the photographs. There are numerous extra parts and service items that go with the Land Rover, as well as the hand crank. In addition, there are numerous records and the British Heritage Certificate that will come with the Land Rover. The aluminum body is in decent condition, though the paint is quite tired. The body color is Marine Blue, and the top is Limestome. There is a patch in the left rear fender, behind the wheel. There is a crease along the door on the left side. The bulkhead area has some minor rust, but nothing serious. Glass is in very nice shape, as are the instrument panel and gauges. The lights, signals, charging system, and heater fan all work correctly. The engine runs well, nice and cool with decent oil pressure. The front seats are solid and comfortable, some cushions covered with a sturdy protective fabric. Frankly, I’ve not looked under that fabric, so the original material may be in good condition underneath, but I can’t guarantee. The worst thing about this Land Rover is the frame which has had rusty areas patched over the years. It is serviceable and will last a long time. However, it will have to be patched some more in the future, or ultimately replaced with the popular galvanized frame. If you are not familiar with driving a Series Land Rover, please bear in mind that it is not designed for high speed interstate travel. These are more at home on the byways, running speeds of 50 mph or less, and, of course, off road exploration. If you have that environment available, and want something interesting, easy to repair, and just plain fun, I can’t think of a better choice.
