YOU CAN BID ON MY 1971 DATSUN 510. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BACK IN OCTOBER, 1996. THE CAR HAS AN INTERESTING BACKGROUND. I AM JUST THE 3RD OWNER AND BOUGHT THE CAR FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER'S GRANDDAUGHTER AFTER THE ORIGINAL OWNER PASSED AWAY. THE CAR WAS BOUGHT NEW IN SAN DIEGO, CA AND BROUGHT TO PHILADELPHIA, PA SOMETIME IN THE 1980'S WHEN THE GRANDMOTHER MOVED HOME TO BE NEAR FAMILY. THE CAR STAYED IN AN UNDERGROUND PARKING SPACE FOR THE NEXT 15 YEARS. I SAW THE CAR, BY CHANCE, SITTING ON THE STREET IN PHILADELPHIA IN 1995 AT THANKSGIVING. I STARTED LEAVING NOTES ON IT THEN AND EVEN HAVE MY BROTHER DO THE SAME FOR A YEAR AS I LIVED IN MIAMI. AFTER A YEAR, THE GRANDDAUGHTER CALLED ME TO SEE IF WE COULD MAKE A DEAL. THE CAR HAD BEEN HIT IN THE DRIVER'S FENDER AND WAS STARTING TO GET A LITTLE BEAT UP SITTING ON THE STREET SO THE GRANDDAUGHTER DECIDED TO SELL THE LITTLE PUMPLIN ORANGE CAR TO SOMEONE WHO REALLY LIKED IT... ME! THAT THANKSGIVING, I DROVE IT ALL THE WAY BACK TO MIAMI, FL WITHOUT A HITCH. THE CAR DROVE GREAT, BUT IT DID SEEM TO FLOAT A LITTLE WITH THOSE SKINNY ORIGINAL BIAS PLY TIRES. THE MOST INTERESTING THING ABOUT THE CAR WAS THAT IT WAS TOTALLY STOCK WHEN I BOUGHT IT... NO RADIO EVER... AND HAD JUST UNDER 18,000 MILES. REALLY. THERE IS STILL AN OIL CHANGE DECAL ON THE DRIVER'S DOOR FROM 1989 WHEN THE CAR STILL HAD LESS THAN 13,000 MILES. TODAY, IT HAS A LITTLE OVER 34,000 MILES. IT HASN'T BEEN DRIVEN AT ALL SINCE 2003. I SLOWLY DID A FEW THINGS TO THE CAR, BUT MOSTLY JUST DROVE HER FOR THE NEXT FEW YEARS WHILE I LIVED IN MIAMI. I BOUGHT ANOTHER 510 IN MIAMI IN 1998 THAT WAS WRECKED AND DROPPED IN AN L20B WITH AN SSS HEAD. SORRY ABOUT THAT... I PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE LEFT HER STOCK. I ALSO REPLACED THAT WRECKED LEFT FENDER WITH A NOS ONE. IN 2000, I LEFT MIAMI AND THEN THE CAR STAYED IN OHIO IN MY MOTHER'S GARAGE UNTIL 2003 WHEN I DROVE HER HERE TO WASH, DC WHERE SHE HAS BEEN PARKED IN MY YARD WITH A TARP ON HER. OBVIOUSLY, BEING OUTSIDE HASN'T HELPED HER SO AND THE FACT THAT I HAVEN'T HAD TIME TO DRIVE HER FOR THE LAST 8 YEARS. FOR THAT REASON, IT'S TIME TO LET HER GO TO A NEW HOME. CURRENTLY, THE 510 ISN'T RUNNING. SHE ALMOST CATCHES, BUT SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE POINTS OR SOMETHING. IF I HAD MORE TIME, I'D INSTALL THE ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTOR THAT I PICKED UP, BUT I'M JUST GOING TO GUARANTEE THAT SHE'LL RUN WITH A FEW HOURS OF WORK BY SOMEONE WHO HAS THE TIME TO FIGURE IT OUT. THE CAR ISN'T WITHOUT EVIDENCE OF TIME AND RUST. THERE IS 3 OR 4 THINGS THAT NEED TO BE ATTENDED TO REGARDING RUST. THE DRIVER'S FLOOR HAS A HOLE WHERE THE FLOOR MEETS THE AREA UNDER THE CLUTCH PEDAL. THAT'S PROBABLY MY FAULT AS I HAD THE TARP OFF FOR OVER A YEAR AND UNDER HARD RAINS, THE WINDSHIELD LEAKED AND I HADN'T REMOVED THE ORIGINAL RUBBER FLOOR SO WATER SAT. THAT HOLE IS RELATIVELY MINOR. THE OTHER SIDE HAS A HOLE TOO AND THAT ONE IS BIGGER BUT CAN EASILY BE WELDED UP. THE MORE SERIOUS RUST IS BEHIND BOTH DOORS IN FRONT OF THE REAR WHEELS. MY WELDER THOUGHT IT WASN'T A BIG DEAL, BUT ANOTHER GUY THOUGHT IT WAS BAD... ALTHOUGH HE STILL WANTED TO BUY THE CAR... HE JUST WANTED THE CAR FOR NOTHING SO I PASSED. THERE IS ALSO RUST ON THE OTHER FRONT FENDER AT THE BOTTOM OF THAT. AND THERE IS RUST UNDER THE LEFT REAR TAILLIGHT... PROBABLY FROM A WATER SOAKED TAILLIGHT LENS. OTHER THAN THESE, THE CAR IS RUST FREE. FROM UNDER THE CAR, THE FLOORS STILL LOOK LIKE NEW. THE CAR NEVER HAD RUST PROOFING UNTIL I SPRAYED IT ON... SO THE BOTTOM STILL HAS ORANGE PAINT UNDER MY NOW PEALING RUBBER COATING. THE TRUNK IS NEAR PERFECT... NO RUST EXCEPT AT THE BACK RIDGE WHERE THAT TAILLIGHT LEAKED. THE ORANGE PAINT IS IN GREAT ORIGINAL SHAPE. INSIDE THE DOORS, THE ORANGE PAINT LOOKS BRAND NEW AND THE METAL LATCHES STILL ARE BRIGHT CADMIUM FINISH. THE PASSENGER DOOR STILL CLOSES LIKE IT WAS NEVER USED. THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT GIVES AWAY THE AGE THOUGH AS THIS AREA LOOKS A LITTLE OLD AND DIRTY. THE INSIDE OF THE CAR IS VERY CLEAN. BACK SEAT IS ORIGINAL AND PERFECT AS ARE ALL DOOR PANELS AND DASH PAD. THEY LOOK BRAND NEW. FRONT SEATS ARE MODERN LEATHER SEATS FROM MID 80'S MITSUBISHI STARION. NICE SEATS... FIT PERFECTLY. THE CAR HAS A SUBARU 3.90 LIMITED SLIP. THE CAR HAS 80-81 STRUTS CUT DOWN WITH PERCHES RELOCATED AS TO FIT TOKIKO ILLUMINA INSERS FOR 300ZX. BRAKES ARE 4 PISTON DATSUN 240Z CALIPERS. DP RACING DID THIS WORK. SUSPENSION IS MOSTLY POLYURETHANE. THE CARBURETOR IS A NICE WEBER 32/36 WITH ELECTRONIC CHOKE. I WILL INCLUDE A NICE ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTOR THAT WILL GET YOU BACK ON THE ROAD IN NO TIME. HAS A POLISHED VALVE COVER. THERE IS AN UNCOMPLETED PROJECT THAT I APOLOGIZE FOR... NO REAR BRAKES AS I INSTALLED ONE BRACKET TO FIT DISC BRAKES BUT DIDN'T GET THIS DONE. PARTS ARE IN THE CAR TO COMPLETE THIS. DON'T BID IF YOU HAVE LESS THAN 5 RATING. I HAVE 6 OTHER VINTAGE CARS AND ALSO HAVE A 69 DATSUN 2000 SO I THOUGHT I'D KEEP IT EVEN THOUGH THE 510 DRIVES WAY BETTER WITH ITS INDEPENDENT REAR SUSPENSION AND QUICK FRONT SUSPENSION. Those were expensive. I bought Euro front parking light lens and they look great. Orange/white It has an adjustable rear view mirror from, I think, a 280ZX. It has rims from a 1979 ZX that I parted out. Tires are more than decent also off the ZX but nothing high speed. Dog leg 5 speed. I didn't keep the L16 or original 4 speed when I swapped years ago. Dammit!
