Vehicle Detail

Nice 1971 Triumph Stag with 231ci V6 GM engine. This is a car with a lot going for it, the mechanics and body are in great condition and the car runs vey well. I don't have a ton of history on it, bought it on eBay last year with the intention of fully restoring it.....but as most sellers on eBay will vouch for plans don't always work out. I got as far as getting the following work done; - Rebuild differential assembly, new ring and pinion, diff bearing, pinion bearing - Replace differential seal - Rebuild power steering rack, new rack kit - Replace lower trailing arm bushings - Repack front wheel bearings - Repair radiator - Service brakes, new pads and hoses - New tires & alignment All in all I have spent $5,600 on the car and have it running very well. The engine starts well and runs very strong with excellent acceleration as you would imagine from the upgraded power and the transmission is also very smooth. That is not to say that everything is done as there are a few items relating to the switching out of the engine/transmission that were never completed including calibrating the speedo and tach - the speedo is not currently hooked up. This also obviously means that the miles are not accurate. As you will also see from the photos there is a fuel cell in the trunk - don't know the rational for this but the fuel tank is still there so this could be switched back. The biggest downside to this (it is actually much safer so there is an upside) is that the fuel gauge is not hooked up. I don't believe that either of these items are major expenditures to fix. Couple of other minor items, the wipers are not installed - they are both there but the previous owner told me there is a linkage missing. The wiper motors are fully functional so this is all that is required. Otherwise everything else electrically works. There is a small crack adjacent to the hood scoop and there is a small piece of paint missing in front of the hood - don't have any history on either but there has not been any deterioration in either since I bought the car. The paint is good from 10 feet but is not the best paint job I have ever seen - perfectly good for a driver though. The underside of the car is completely dry and rust free with the exception of a small 1" hole under a floorpan - very original condition so it is easy to see how clean it is under the car. The interior looks to be original and as such is in good condition. There are a couple of small tears in the driver seat and the door panels need some TLC. My original plan was to restore the interior but it is completely usable as is. There is no hard top and the soft top is fully functional but needs a little TLC for a couple of holes - usable as is. The chrome is all there and in good condition. All in all this is a very pretty car, wire wheels look great, that runs very well and can be used with complete confidence or the restoration can be continued. A lot of the heavy lifting has been done mechanically and the remaining work is pretty simple - or drive it as is. All work was completed at British Motor Service in Orange, a local specialist on English cars and there are receipts for all of the work performed. The car is registered in California and is current. I am not an expert on these cars, just like them, but any and all questions are welcome and I'll do my best to answer. Rob
