Without doubt this is the nicest, most carefully kept 940 Volvo wagon I’ve seen in a while .Remember the super capable , smiling, confident , geeky kid in 8th grade with the pressed clean pants, the perfect homework, the sharpened pencils, the apple for the teacher and even the girls liked him ? A huge geek, but he always somehow “had it together”?WELL, THIS IS THAT GUY’S CAR !Owner was persnickety! Super well cared for.A really nice car especially considering the year and usage. Not at all perfect mind you , ... I don’t really man to say that. But, nevertheless, exceptionally well cared for. It was owned by a gentleman from an affluent area in suburban Maryland outside Wash DC and used as a commuter on the highway. And, about miles on Volvos like this- heck some would say its almost immaterial. We heard of one locally recently that went 600,000 miles. One would think this certainly has another 4-5 years in it. These cars just go forever. SEE 80 PICTURS BELOW--------------------------------------------------------------------------Came in in just incredibly nice cosmetic and mechanical condition. This guy just had an incredible mentality. He just kept it SOOOO nice, with the exception say of the tear on the seat. Overall, just the nicest, most well kept , most comfortable, babied lux car with miles I’ve ever seen. Period. Again, don’t get the wrong idea…It isn’t perfect of course, but it is remarkably well cared for. That what I wan tot say. Honestly, this guy had to be one rather super careful, super fastidious fellow. The kind of guy who never had a spot on his pants – ever. Engine- Came in clean, clean, clean. No smoke leaks, noise… nothing. Runs perfectly . No leaks whatsoever. The underside is so dry and clean as to look almost new. Uncanny. Oil change also had been done quite fairly recently and good for another 2500 miles or so. Some details: The engine is Volvo’s ultra high quality and dependable 2.3 liter 4 cylinder…really the engine standout that Volvo really burnished their reputation on. Super strong, super dependable, easy to work on, just a legendary, trouble free power plant . This one's in good shape. Engine oil shows clean and clear oil . Engine is strong, and smooth. Not even a smidgeon of “blow by”. As you certainly must know, these model engines can easily go well more than 500K miles and in some cases have gone well more than 800 K miles. Transmission shifts up through the gears perfectly as it should. ` Brakes – Feel very fresh. Smooth and strong. Stable, solid , tracks well in a straight line - in that "straight as an arrow" Volvo way Steering. Goes down the road flawlessly straight. No fade , pull or drift whatsoever. Absolutely balanced and dead on straight steering. SEE 80 PICTURES BELOW Tires – Tires are a matching set of expensive Japanese Sumitomo tires in good- excellent condition. Easily $500 to $600 in tires put on about a year and a half ago. Good tread ; a solid B+ to A-. Radio- Radio is strong original equipment Volvo radio sound . Heat is strong and very comfortable even in real cold. Fan blower motor is quiet on the dash. Interior- Overall affect is luxury – REAL nice. Sumptuous rich butter leather in a very beautiful dark charcoal. Couple minor diclorations on carpet – again overall incredibly clean, The interior, again, represents the whole lux feel of this car. It’s extremely nice. Perfect map pockets on both doors! You who know Volvos and map pockets …You know the owner had to be just so carful to drive this far and have two intact map pockets ! I’m can’t confirm this, but I would certainly guess the car has been consistently garaged. Rear seat- Integrated booster cushion for kids in rear seat. Exhaust – Newuish looking exhaust tailpipe and solid full length exhaust in good shape. On of the few things to complain about - Couple modest wear tears on the driver seat, but they’re under your thigh! Once you’re in you never see them. And of course you can’t fell them. You don’t even know they are there. Headliner is good . Little bit of scuff darkness from furniture moving. Power windows, locks and mirrors. Even the quality of the car is evident in the windshield. Its near new and it shows. Crystal Clear. Actually makes a difference. Honestly – the great used cars: What you look for in a used car is the mentalit y and the energy of the owner. Over the years, its the owners mind and personality that make the car what it is. When the owner is carful , disciplined attentive to detail and ultra responsible…and owns a car for many years …you get a used car that reflects that personality. That’s what you want. As well as immaculate cabin, the cargo area is just amazing. Original equipment complete fold out little tool kit. underneath the cargo area, Spare tire in immaculate storage spot, though I didn’t see the jack. Tire looks new like it never even touched the ground. You know how the interlocking floor panels of a station wagon’s carpeted rear floor usually don’t fit together well? How they often refuse to ly flat and fit together smooth and snug? Ever single panel lies flat, flush and tight and fits perfectly. No fight, no struggle. Perfect. All lights and lenses are also perfect. One tiny 2” hair line crack on a taillight lens. Other little lux features like perimeter safety (red ) lights that glow on each open door edge to protect from approaching cars. Dash mounted outside temperature gauge. The air conditioning worked well when the car first came in whnit during our warm Indian summer. It was fine. When we re-checked it last week for this auction the AC came on, was cold and the compressor spun, but cycled on and off. I couldn’t tell whether that was simply because it was so cold out that the AC machinery “knew “ it didn’t need to fully come on ….or because it needed recharged. I've driven it maybe 400 miles already. Just a real nice 'ole car. Just a dependable, simple, smooth classic that should last a number of more years because it was so well taken care of. The body is near flawless. One tiny quarter-size ding , right rear corner, several other scratches, otherwise remarkably straight. No rust whatsoever on the body . Underneath also , n o rust at all. Paint shines like a new car. Excellent . Even without waxing the car came in as bright, and fresh. Looks pretty dar n good and the impression is rich and sumptuous. Normal wear and smattering of scratches here and there. Safety, weight and strength in a crash – Hey what can one say. It’s a sturdy, heavy solidly built Volvo. Safety for you – A few years back, when Volvo advertised an "Accidental Loss of Life" insurance policy for all '96 models, they had solid empirical data upon which to make their offer . Amazingly , Volvo will tell you that no driver deaths occurred in single-vehicle crashes or rollovers of the Volvo 240 car during the 1990-94 period. Not one . Amazing safely record. Volvo made its reputation for safety and dependability with these cars. You will notice there are still a lot of them around for a reason. They are extremely strong, safe cars. If you want to Buy It Now ….In the interest of selling it quickly I’ve reduced it for the eBay sale. [It has been for sale locally, financeable, .......for $3,295and it’s still here.
