Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a 1983 Honda Gold Wing GL1100. I bought this motorcycle March 16, 1995. It had 57,300 miles on it at the time. I rode this bike until 6 years ago putting 14,258 miles on it. In the summer of 2004 it developed a brake problem. Other priorities in life caused the bike to slide farther back in the garage. I have since found out that the brake problem is relatively minor in that the master cylinder has a tiny vent hole and becomes clogged easily. I found this information on a Gold Wing forum on the internet. The rear brake caliper has something wrong with it and I removed it so the motorcycle could be moved. I also wired the foot brake pedal up so it would not accidentally press brake fluid out of the system. The left muffler has a hole in it. It was patched with a muffler repair kit. The dealership I bought this from told me that the previous owner was the original owner and had a sidecar attached to it. The engine ran fine the last time I had it out, but it has stale gas in it now. I added new gas and Lucas fuel additive and used ether to start it. It would run on ether and did idle for a little while. There might be other small things wrong with this motorcycle that I don’t know about but it is old. Now is the perfect time of the year to buy a good old bike with lots of life in it. You have several months before riding season is upon us to get everything in tip top shape and ready for a summer of enjoyable riding. I do have a few lights and a couple other accessories that go with the motorcycle that will be included. I do have a clean Ohio title ready to go. As far as shipping goes I would prefer this to be a local pickup, but if you want to send a carrier after it I can and will assist with the loading if needed. I do not answer questions or send photos in the last 24 hours of the auction. Please check my other items I have listed as well. Happy bidding! On Dec-02-10 at 18:53:29 PST, seller added the following information:More information about the brakes. This bike has two rotors on the front wheel. The rotor controlled by the standard handle bar brake works fine. The other front rotor works in conjunction with the rear brake and it also does not release if the foot brake is applied. That points to an issue with the master cylinder. I have since learned that there is a tiny breather hole in the master cylinder that plugs up and causes this problem. But the rear brake caliper has something wrong besides the master cylinder. I hope this answers the questions about the brakes.***************************More information about the extra lights and parts that go with the bike. There are no cracks, how ever the trunk, trunk lid and saddlebag lids have some scratches. The scratches are not as bad as what you see on the rear fender. There are holes in the trunk lid for the luggage rack. The luggage rack is removed and in the trunk. It needs re-plated or painted. I took pictures of all the lights and other accessories that goes with the bike. That includes fork lights, front fender guard/bumper, a frame for around the license plate with four lights mounted on it, saddle bag liners, mounts for fog lights (they did not work and I tossed them when I purchased the bike) and a home made trailer hitch. I had no need for a trailer hitch and removed it when I bought the bike. There is a mounting clamp in the center hole where the trailer ball goes. This is the link http://1983hondagoldwing.shutterfly.com/ to the pictures which now has 66 pictures. The new ones are at the end of the previous ones.
