Being offered for the first time via NO RESERVE auction is a rare 1948 DeSoto Suburban utility sedan.This low-production survivor features third-row jump seats, sliding second-row seating and an extended wheelbase. Slide the second row forward, flip the third row forward, and 8 feet of cargo space becomes available. This example is equipped with DeSoto L-head 6 cylinder motor and fluid-drive semi-automatic transmission. It drips oil lightly when idling in place. It has a freshly rebuilt carburetor, new fuel pump and new points, condenser and wires. It starts easily and all lights, including turn signals, work as they should. The radio is non-operational. Tires are good but brakes are due for an adjustment. The tu-tone paint is correct and is approximately 20 years old. Still shows well, but has a few scuffs and scrapes. All window glass is intact and all windows roll up and down properly. Stainless steel trim is intact but rear fender strips are flattened. Chrome is presentable but not trophy quality. An externa -sunvisor in a non-matching color is included with this sale. As photos indicate, this vehicle still makes a good impression without being overly fussy. The rear seat covers and headliner are original and are in good condition. Front seat has a number of seam tears and is covered to prevent further damage. Rear carpet is good original, front rubber mat appears to be a replacement. Wooden rear cargo floor is in good condition as are the woodgrain door panels. This DeSoto would be an excellent candidate for full restoration , or drive it and enjoy it as it is.
