Vehicle Detail
Personal circumstances are forcing me to sell my 1968 Porsche 911. This has been a four year project which is 85-90%complete. All the hard work is done, and the interior, headliner, and minor odds and ends need to be completed. I have and am including a majority of the extra parts including brand new carpet kit and countless miscellaneous parts. But I digress; let’s start this story from the beginning. This is a 1968 911 sunroof coupe. I came into possession of it following a complete tear down, new front suspension pan, all body work completed, and a high quality complete repaint of the entire car in Polo Red. All this was done in the late 1990s. The prior owner never paid the shop for the work and the car was left for over ten years in a corner of the shop collecting dust. The driveline as sold off, the interior disappeared, and all that was left was a freshly restored and painted chassis with complete wiring, and not much else. Over the years the chassis developed a slight ding / scrape on the passenger side from a careless mechanic, and eventually it was moved outside for a few months to make room. That is how I received the car in early 2007, and have put it back together piece by piece since. The engine and transmission came from a donor car, the engine being a 1970 911 T engine, and the transmission being a 902 5 speed. While I did a lot of the minor work, I am smart enough to know my limitations. Hence I turned the Porsche over to Power Tech, in Rockaway, NJ a well known Porsche shop (pwr-tech.com) in late 2007 through 2008. I spent over $15,000 with them for the bulk of the restoration. I have an 11 page invoice in PDF format explaining and itemizing what work they completed and am happy to send it to potential bidders. From 2008 through present, I have continued work on the Porsche, but it has been stored for all of 2010 inside a friend’s garage under a custom fit protective cover. Last weekend was the first time it has been out, run, and pictures taken in a year. I have always stored in with a full tank of gas with the required stabilizer, however, due to the length of time, the car is smoking while it continues to burn off the old gas (not oil smoke). The following is a list of what I remember having been completed, replace, repaired, etc. There is a lot of information on the Power Tech invoice as well. -1970 T engine leak down test performed and all cylinders found to be within spec by Power Tech -Engine and transmission installed by Power Tech -Heater boxes rebuilt and operational -Clutch inspection replacement of dowel pins -Complete carb rebuild -All calipers bead blasted and completely rebuilt. -New master cylinder and all brake lines -New fuel tank, sending unit, fuel lines -Oil tank overhauled -Shifter assembly rebuild -Pedal assembly rebuild -90% of all body seals are brand new -Shock and struts replaced -Alternator and fan belt replaced -The entire floor pan and rear seat area and deck areas were completely stripped and given 2 coats of POR 15 There are about a 1000 little things that have done, which are too many to mention. Just remember that unlike a usual restoration with a complete car, this was an empty chassis that all the parts had to be sourced. There are a few small things to mention: -There are small blister bubbles along the front edge of the truck lid under the paint in a few small places (about 4 or so) -The passenger side floor mental was getting thin in about a four or five inch area and reinforced with fiberglass matting from POR 15 -The small dent (most likely from a screwdriver)/scratch on the passenger side fender near the headlight For completion the following things need to be done. Interior installed carpet, seats (I have six seats in various conditions that I’m including two good ones can be put together from the six), headliner installed once the wiring for the interior lights and sunroof is finished. About the sunroof, the motor and assembly work fine, as switch needs to be installed, and the buyer will need to by a few missing brackets on the sunroof to keep it in place. New tires are needed, and some minor electrical items. The following is what is working electrically: The alternator is new, charges, and works fine. The headlamps, tail lamps, signals, and horn all work. The fuel gauge, oil tank indicator light, and temperature gauge all work. The tach needs to have the right sending unit installed, and occasionally, the signal lights stop working as I suspect a relay problem on occasion. Rules of the auction: First off, I won’t disclose the reserve price, however, I’m well aware that I will not recover the money invested, and I have set the reserve reasonably. I don’t have time during the week to show the car due to work, but I am happy to take phone calls and e-mails. Shipping is the buyer’s responsibility. I will assist shipping in this way: my friend owns a towing business and can flatbed the Porsche to DAS shippers in Linden, NJ or the port in Elizabeth for shipping internationally. The price for this service will be worked out directly with him. His name is Tom from Austin Towing and he can be reached at 201-788-3976. All negative bidders will be removed and blocked. Low feedback bidders need to e-mail me prior to bidding. A $500.00 deposit through Pay Pal will be required upon auction completion. The balance is to be paid in cash, bank check, or wire transfer. The Porsche will not be given to the new owner until I’m certain all funds are available to me if paying by bank check or wire transfer. I can be contacted at 201-982-1992 or rlrl74@yahoo.com. Thanks and happy bidding.
