This 1956 Ford Thunderbird came out of a barn in Maine and after full inspection it turns out that it is a very nice example of this vintage vehicle. It had been in storage since 1985. The oil & filter was changed, the fuel pump was replaced, the gas tank was flushed out and the battery was replaced. We oiled up the cylinder walls during a tune up and after a quick prime in the carburetor it fired up and ran pretty well. We check all the fluids adjusted the tire pressures, checked the brakes and headed out for a road test. The brakes stop straight and the pedal is solid. The transmission up shifts and downshifts properly without any slippage. The engine sounds good without any abnormal noises. The steering is tight and precise. The suspension has the typical ride for these cars. They didn’t have a mushy, luxury, float down the road feel. They were sports cars and ride appropriately. The exterior of this car, considering it a barn find in Maine is pretty good. It does have some small dings, but no real dents or rotted out areas. I tried to show the biggest imperfections with the pictures. The right quarter has a very small dent and some paint crazing on the top of the left front fender. There are two cracks on the top of the doors by the trim and again I tried to show these spots in the pictures. The paint overall isn’t too bad if you just want to drive it and have some fun, but for the serious collector, it would need a fresh paint job. The engine bay is pretty clean and still wears a vast majority of its original parts. This is not a car that has had very many hands on it. The interior is very good and comes with a new carpet and underlayment. All the gauges work with the exception of the clock as usual. The seats materials are very good and still firm without any broken spring issues and the door trim panels are in very good condition. The soft top seems to be a new one that never got installed completely and it seems that the mounting mechanism is all there. The hard top is pretty good as far as these go with the usual stress cracks in it as you look closely. The exterior trim on this car is in very good shape. It needs some polishing to bring the luster back out. We did a few spots to see if it would come back and without much effort the shine came right back. All in all this is a great right out of the barn vehicle. It is perfect for the guy that has been waiting for the right unmolested car to come around to do that perfect restoration on, because everything is there and operational, no parts to find and piece together. It is also perfect for the person that wants to just buy a nice car and go to a cruise night here and there. You really don’t have to do anything if you don’t want to. It would be still be fun to enjoy it just the way it is. This vehicle shows 6256 miles on the odometer, as does the title. I would assume it is 106256, but the title reads "actual mileage".
