Vehicle Detail
So my daughter was 18 and didn't want the same old car that everyone else has. I showed her this car sitting on a corner in our little town and she said, "Nobody puts Baby in the corner." Corny I know; she's watched too many 80's movies with me. The car had been up on blocks in a guy's garage for years. He sold it to a man to restore with his stepson. The stepson just wanted an Accord so there was Baby with no one to love her. My daughter insisted she could afford to do a little at a time and as she worked 2 jobs it was feasible. She got Baby and went from being known by her name to being known as "the girl with the car." This was great for awhile and she drove Baby everywhere. Then she made a poor judgement call and found the car wasn't going to be the only baby in her life. She is almost 20 now with neither the time nor the money to work on baby the car as all of her time and money now go to baby the little boy. Here is our very limited knowledge of Baby and no we are not mechanics so please pardon my ignorance. We are NOT professionals of any sort so it's the basics as we know them. It is a slant 6. It rumbles, spits and sputters pleasingly if you like that-obviously we do. It runs and she drove it all over. I have driven it back & forth to work, an 86 mile a day commute, many times when my truck had issues. The heater/ac wasn't replaced during the previous owners time working on it and we have no clue where to get one or how to do it so we just roll down the windows and grin and bear it because at least we look cool-LOL. The body is free of rust but there's a minimal amount here and there on the bumpers. I just replaced the starter this summer(auto zone). I have no idea why you can't see it in the pics, but the windshield has a massive starburst crack in it. The good news is I already bought one for it and you can put it in yourself or hire it done for about $80. She parked it because the ball joint needs replaced on the front passenger side after eating the tire. We took it to have it done and the mechanic said there was no point in doing it because some genius repairing the frame right beside it welded directly to the body instead of taking the extra hour to make a proper weld causing the ball joint to bust and eat the tire after she'd driven it about a year. The previous owner smoothly lost the keys so we got the ignition key made, but not the trunk key. My daughter took the seat out to look in there and said there's a bundle of trim back there. The battery was put in another vehicle though I suppose we could grab one at wal-mart if she gets a decent amount out of it. No radio and the wipers work when they want to. ??? No clue??? We're assuming if you're reading this it's because you're a man (maybe a woman) that loves the old stuff. We're also assuming that, unlike us, you actually have the knowledge and skill to restore "Baby" to her former glory. I'm getting a lump in my throat. You have to actually have had a busted thumbnail from a hammer or a small scar on your forehead from not getting out fast enough when the jack fell. If you are simply a male you do not qualify! You must be a man (or woman) who does not need to call AAA because you can do it yourself thank you very much. My daughter has more money then I care to think about in Baby at the moment and needs to get enough out of her to make her feel okay about having to drive a minivan (hahaha sweet revenge) until time passes and she can justify such a purchase again with a mid-life crisis or something. Title is clear and was transferred to my name this summer for cheaper insurance purposes than a 19 year old girl. Liability on this car is only $23/month. I only answer email on breaks at work. If you think you can make this Baby what she ought to be we'd love you to have her. Obviously you'd need to come and get her or arrange shipping. One more thing I'm clueless about. Thank you.
