I bought this car at an estate sale last spring with intentions of parting it out. However, after looking it over I learned that it has a serial number matching 400 motor and is definitely worth rebuilding. It's not pretty and will need a lot of work, but this is a rare, desirable and valuable car that makes the effort worth while. The 400/330hp YT motor alone is worth almost as much as my no reserve opening bid for the car. BODY: The body has a lot of rust, but the front and rear frame rails look good. It will need a full floor pan and a trunk floor, and if I was building it I would replace the rear quarters. All of these parts are available as new reproduction parts. The 400 hood is also rusted and should be replaced. These are also being made as reproductions. The front header panel on the convertible top is also rusted and will need attention or replacing. If I were building it, I would begin by finding a parts car (plain Firebird hardtop) with a good body and use its doors,deck lid, windshield, miscellaneous parts, and possibly the trunk and floor on this project. According to the Data Plate, the original color is code L = Aleutian Blue. The trim color (interior) is code 255 = Imitation Leather Custom Interior in Teal Knit and Teal. The interior has been dyed black. Motor: The motor was apart and out of the car when I purchased it. Obviously, it will need rebuilt. Mostly complete but minus its intake manifold, carburetor, air cleaner, exhaust manifolds, and starter. The block casting number is 9790071 (correct for 1968 400 cid) and the block is stamped YT = Automatic, 400 cid/330hp with 4v quadrajet carb, Firebird. The serial number stamped on the block is the same as the serial number on the title and on the car. There is no transmission with the car. The flywheel and the torque converter is included. Interior: Car is missing its bucket seats, but the rear seat is included. Car will need reproduction door panels or possibly could use seats and door panels from a parts car. Title: I have a signed West Virginia title that was never transferred by the previoius owner. Some of the info on the title was rubbed off where the title was folded up, so some States may not accept it. Companies like Broadway title and others can take care of the title issue. Car is being sold as is with the title issue. I will give the buyer the title I have and a bill of sale. Potential bidders are encouraged to see the car at my home.
