Vehicle Detail
I am the third owner of this 1972 BRONCO EXPLORER SPORT 302 I was told in the first owner was a postman in the “high country” of Colorado. . He put the first 100,000 miles on the car. The second owner was in the military at Holloman Air Base in Alamogordo, NM. He was ending his career in a short time and needed to sell one of his vehicles prior to his move. I bought the car from him while I lived and El Paso, TX and since have moved back to northern Michigan. Now the car itself: The car was bought new as a: 1972 Bronco Explorer Sport 302 Wagon (sometimes called a hardtop) 3 speed transmission 4 wheel drive Auxiliary fuel tank Rear jump seat Special order cloth and vinyl interior (a Bronco aficionado told me the cloth pattern is rare - it is called “random striped cloth") AM radio 4.11 gears The plate on the glove box has the following information: W.B. 92 Color Z (Light Copper Metallic) Model UB151(U-100 wagon) Body 84 Trans C (3-speed manual) Axle 03 (4.11 Gears) Max GVW 04500 Cert. NET H.P. 139 (this may have read 159, I had poor lighting) RPM 4000 DSO 76 (Denver) The 1st owner added: Fingerhut brand seat covers (the one is still on the rear seat but, since it is splitting/cracking, should be removed before someone sits on it and damages the upholstery underneith) He put small hub caps UNDER the full wheel covers (yes, you read correctly. I am not sure of the reason for this being done, but it was.) Locking gas caps When purchased by the second owner, he removed the Fingerhut seat covers from the front seats as they were getting old and cracking and he was afraid they might poke holes in the original material underneith. He also purchased a car cover for the Bronco. I bought the car, from the 2nd owner, on ebay, and drove it home from Alamogordo, NM to El Paso, TX. As things would go, about 7 months later, I retired and moved from the El Paso area back to northern Michigan. I left the Bronco in storage for about 6 weeks and then flew back to get it. I drove it from El Paso to Scottsdale, AZ to the GoodGuys Southwest Nationals in November, 2006. After the show, I and a friend drove the Bronco back to his place in Illinois and then I continued on up through Wisconsin to Marquette, MI where I am now. NOW, because my sholders are paying me back for abusing them when I was younger I decided to add power steering. I located a quick steer (4 turns lock to lock) power steering box, pump w/factory cooler, hoses, and pitman arm on ebay, bought them and installed them while rebuilding the steering column shift linkage. So the Bronco now has what appears to be factory installed power steering, although I don’t believe P.S. was available on them in 1972. I have installed a Pertronix Ignitor in place of the points and condensor. The Bronco now has: Approximately 105,000 original miles (I may drive it a little more) It’s original paint (notice a few spots where it has been buffed through) It’s original interior (at least for the most part) No rust outs (just surface rust on any bare metal areas like chassis, steering arm, and other under the car parts, as far as I can tell). One person who inspected it said the left side inner piece was getting a little punky. Others have not said so. Power steering The original 302 V8 2 barrel carburetor engine w/Pertronix Ignitor in the distributor The original 3 speed transmission The original transfer case A few minor scrapes and bumps An almost new car cover What does it need? It needs the tailpipe replaced It should have the door seals replaced (both new door seals are included in the sale) It also needs the upper and lower tailgate seals replaced (they are also included in the sale) The dash pad has two cracks in it and it should be repaired or replaced. (I have a dash pad cover molded to fit over the old pad and it is included in the sale) I have not noticed any other needs with the Bronco It is NICE! I have not and do not drive the car in the winter. If you need to ask “why” you’ve never seen a northern Michigan winter. It has been kept in a heated garage most of the time (garage without heat the rest). I don’t think the hardtop has ever been off of the vehicle. The tires are still good and have good tread. It has a fresh oil change AND if you come to pick it up yourself, I will fill both fuel tanks. This car is so original (except as noted and for normal wear and tear items) and so nice it needs to go to a good home. Winter appears to be coming early this year, with frost and freezing temps already having hit the area. If it doesn’t sell, it may have to be sacrificed to the Michigan winters and will become like most of the other cars after a few years ... rust! I really hate to do it, but ... life goes on! And here are the things you need to know. I am sure I have left some details out, so check out the pictures, reread what I have written, e-mail me with your questions AND then bid. The car is being sold as is, where is. There is no warranty stated, written, or implied. This is a 38 year old vehicle. It is NOT a hot rod, street rod, rock climber or beater, BUT rather a vintage or classic or whatever other term you might want to use. It is a very nice Bronco Explorer Sport 302 which has never been cut up, but as any car of this vintage it may need a few things done. I would encourage you to inspect the car first. I would also encourage you, DO NOT BID if you feel you are not comfortable purchasing the car as it is. I have given any info as to the needs of the car, as I know them, in the most honest manner. I checked my files to find out when I purchased the Bronco and found I have owned it since March, 2006 ... and I like the car ... and so may have overlooked some of it’s clunks, rattles, and little quirks. I am selling it only because I have too many vehicles AND I really don’t want to drive it in the winter. Again, there is no warranty, implied or otherwise, on the automobile. I recommend you inspect the car before bidding. As per my previous statement, If you are uncomfortable buying the car as is, PLEASE DO NOT BID. Your bid is to buy the car, not for an opportunity to look at it and decide if you want to buy it. PLEASE DON'T BID UNLESS YOU PLAN TO BUY. e-mail me with questions. I will gladly call serious buyers if you send your phone and best time to call, but I am not available Sunday mornings. A nonrefundable deposit of $1,000.00 must be made within 72 hours of the end of auction. It may be made either by PayPal or U.S.P.S. Postal Money Order (any other type of funds will be considered nonpayment). BALANCE is due within 10 days of the end of the auction or (which ever occurs first) prior to picking the car up, shipping the car, or receiving delivery of the car from the seller. BALANCE must be by wire transfer, cash or other funds that are verifiable and guaranteed at the time of exchange. I will work the details out with the purchaser. NEITHER THE CAR NOR THE TITLE WILL BE GIVEN OUT UNTIL THE FUNDS ARE FULLY EXCHANGED, VERIFIED, AND USABLE IN MY ACCOUNT. DO NOT USE PAYPAL FOR THE FULL PAYMENT, ONLY FOR THE DEPOSIT, UNLESS YOU WANT TO PAY THE FULL PAYPAL CHARGES IN ADDITION TO THE PURCHASE PRICE (approximately 3%). The car is sold as is, where is, however, I will work with you and/or your shipper on being available. (Sunday mornings I am not available). Buyer pays all shipping and insurance costs. The winning bidder is responsible for any and all title, plates, taxes, transfers, inspections, insurance, and any other charges related to the sale/purchase of the car.
