Vehicle Detail
This is a complete replica of the Jeep Cherokee that the Fratelli's drove in the film "The Goonies". This Jeep was used in a re-enactment of the opening scene of the film in Astoria, Oregon in June of this year. It was the 25th anniversary of "The Goonies" release and to open the new Oregon Film Museum we re-enacted the jail escape scene with police cars, fire and Joe Pantoliano. (see video below) During the 25th event, the Cherokee was signed by the cast that rode in it during the filming: Jeff Cohen "Chunk", Joe Pantoliano "Francis fratelli, and Director Richard Donner. Robert Davi "Jake Fratelli", signed the Jeep later down in Hollywood, CA. This 1987 model is almost exactly the same as the 1984 body, the only small difference is the direction of the ridges on the roof. This Jeep is a Southern California vehicle and is rust free! The title is clean and in hand. The Jeep runs great and starts up on the first turn. 177k miles. Automatic transmission. 4 wheel drive. I have not personally tested the 4wd, but everything looks to be good. The Jeep was run in 4x4 a few days before I bought it. The Interior is clean with a few small spots. The seats are a tan vinyl / cloth mix. In order to make this Cherokee look as close to the Goonies Hero Jeep, some modifications were made:I removed the passenger side door mirror to match the Jeep in the film. This was patched with small piece of triangle metal screwed back onto the door. The tint in the rear portion of the vehicle was also removed. The roof rack was removed and holes were patched with plugs and sealed.Custom built, mandrel bent, front brush guard. This was a used factory push bar bumper guard, and I had the left and right hoops fabricated and welded on.The off road lights as well as the driving lights in the front are functional. There is power run from the cab to the grille, you can pick which of the 2 sets you would like to wire to, then operate them from the switch near the gear shift. The Oregon plates are thick plastic, laminated, flat reproductions. You will receive the current registered California license plate to drive on the street legally. The bullet holes in the rear lift gate are hand fabricated. I had a fear of shooting real bullets into the tailgate due to the fact that this portion of all 80's Cherokees are fiberglass. I used a drill bit and file to create the holes and finished them out with a razor blade. There are drainage holes in the bottom portion of the lift gate for water runoff. The Good:New Michelin LTX Mud/Snow tires. (less than 2,000 miles) There are (4) 31 x 10.50 tires and (2) 30 x 9.5. Currently I have the 30's in front and 31's in back. (I liked the stance) You can put the 31's all around if you wish. All (6) tires are included. The spare is one of the 31's.Brand new brake master cylinder. New MAP sensor. (was installed during recent CA smog. After new sensor was installed it passed smog with flying colors)Brand new bumper corners all around front and back.Moon roof (pop-up kind, no motor, no sliding)Full towing package.2-3 inch lift. (this was not installed by me, but helps the Jeep's overall look)New battery and the red gas can Joey Pants used in the re-enactment The Bad:Jeep's A/C does not function. Not sure if it needs a re-charge or if it calls for a new compressor. The factory radio does not work. The tape player functions, but plays cassettes back slightly faster than normal. Included is a cassette adapter so that you can play music (i.e. the Goonies score, via your ipod, iphone, etc...)This vehicle is over 23 years old and does leak a small amount of oil. There is circular crack in the front windshield down near the dash. (detailed in the photos on the link)Older paint job. A good wax brings out a nice look, but there is some small paint peeling occurring on the roof.A dent in the driver's side rocker panel and the fender flare does not butt up to the body seamlessly. (also detailed in the photos) Previous owner had a tire shred on them and it damaged the fender flare and the rocker. I reattached the back edge of the flare but it does not sit flush in a small area. The Cherokee is located in Monrovia, CA, just outside of Los Angeles. The replica is sitting under a car cover waiting for its new owner. Please feel free to ask questions. Immediately following the completion of the auction a $500.00 NON-refundable payment is required via PayPal. Full payment in cash and pickup of the Jeep is required within one week of the end of the auction. If you cannot meet these requirements, please do not bid.
