Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my plum crazy purple 1970 Dodge Challenger. Has a clear title, and fender tag and dash VIN plate are still on the car. The mileage stands at 27814, but I'm pretty sure you can tack another 100k on that. It was built at the L.A. plant in late 1969, and appears to have spent a large part of its life in the dry Texas climate. This is a non-numbers matching project car. It was originally equipped with a 383 V8, but currently has a 440 V8 that has been rebuilt. I believe that the current 727 torqueflite transmission is original. The A/C components of the car are missing, and have been since I acquired it in September 2001 (nine whole years ago!). The body of this car is very solid; the only problem spots are the area below the back glass, the rear passenger side floor pan, and the trunk floor, all of which seem to be problem areas on these cars. Oh, and there is a small spot behind the driver side door chrome. I've included pictures of all. The car originally had a black vinyl top, which has since been removed to remove and primer the surface rust that had collected there. It has been sanded down and sprayed with primer. The body panels are all solid, as are the doors. As you can see in the pictures, the driver side fender is brand new. The original fender had some body filler in it, from what appeared to be a minor fender bender. This was given to a friend to repair, after which said friend managed to "accidentally" lose it. The temptation to choke said friend was quite high. This is why I purchased and installed a brand new fender, which looks great. The engine in the car was rebuilt by a local racing engine builder in 2004-2005. It was bored .030 over, and had a new cam, pistons, crank, and other goodies installed. The cam installed was a Comp Cam Part# 21-228-4 Serial# UG6011. This is a fairly aggressive cam, but still quite streetable. Since I am lazy, and given the ease of using digital cameras, I have included a picture of the information card about this particular cam and its grind. When this engine dynoed it produced 448 hp and 520 ft/lbs of torque at the fly wheel. Pretty good for a street car. The engine has been pickled since that time, and has been turned on a regular basis. It currently does not have a carburetor; as I recall the Edelbrock that the aluminum Performer RPM high-rise intake was designed for was a was a Performer Series 750 cfm. The engine and transmission have since been placed back into the vehicle for ease of transport. It would also require a new fuel pump, as the original was misplaced during the rebuild. I only drove this car once, back in 2001. As I recall the transmission shifted well, but could probably stand a rebuild as it is stock and not set up for this engines power/torque production. The car does have a brand new torque converter that IS rated for this power threshold. The interior needs attention; the seats, dash, and headliner need replaced. However, as a added bonus, I am including a brand new headliner purchased for this car with the auction. The passenger door was partially disassembled (don't ask me why), but the panel, handle, and glass are all there. The locking mechanisms linkage is missing and needs replaced. The glass is all present; however the windshield was cracked shortly after I purchased this car. Therefore, I am including a new windshield that bought to replace it several years ago, still in the box to sweeten the deal. The car also has a restored grille and bezel set, as shown in the pictures, and I am also including a nice set of taillight lenses and bezels, as well as a new trunk lid. Other extra parts include 2 other headlights, the under dash A/C duct work, as well as some the extra center console pieces I have, if the buyer is interested. Once again, this car doesn't run, so bring a trailer. Considering what I spent on the car, plus engine rebuild, and various parts, reserve is set conservatively. I loved having this car, I wish I could have done more with it, but pending student loans require that I let her go. That being said, I'm not interested in trades of any kind, and this old girl isn't going anywhere until the funds clear the bank. Thanks for looking!
