Vehicle Detail
I have a truly great automobile up for auction today! The Cadillac Allante is a remarkable autombile and was definitely ahead of its time. This one is a daimond in the rough for the right person and will be sold to the highest bidder. This car will need some attention but it will be well worth your efforts in the end. Although the miles are on the high side for an Allante, 120k is still very low miles for a vehicle of this age. I rescued this car from an asset sale so here is everything I know about it... Around the outside the car isn't in bad condition as the pictures show. There is a small spot on the hood where the paint is faded but besides that she cleans up really well. There is a small scuff on the corner of the front bumber but it is barely noticable. There is NO RUST on this car and all the panels are strait. None of the glass is cracked and all lenses are in tact. The hard top is in near perfect condition top and bottom! The soft top is in very good shape, too. There are no rips, holes or other flaws that I can find on it. The trunk area is clean and free of stains and excess wear. The engine bay is also very nice for a car of this age. On the inside there are some minor issues. As the pictures show, there are three spots in the stitching where the drivers seat has torn. Other than that, the cabin is in nice shape. The passenger seat looks great, the dash is not cracked and the carpets are pretty clean throughout. Some of the buttons on the radio are worn but all work. The boot for the soft top is showing some wear at the right hinge. The little latch in the back where the top is stored is broken I think (or I just can't figure it out). The drivers window will need a new motor ($50). I believe one of the amps will need rebuilt. Once in a while some squeeking can be heard in the left front speaker. The air conditioner will need refrigerant. Mechanically, the engine is great. It starts right up and idles smooth. The 4.1L V8 makes unexpected power. I drove it over 100 miles home and it held normal temperature and oil pressure the whole way home while getting nearly 20mpg! There is no smoke or leaks from the engine and it runs very quietly. The transmission is starting to slip in third and fourth gears. Cruising down the road it is fine but when you put the pedal down to pass or enter a highway it will slip under the power. Like I said, I drove it 100 miles home and it drove great...you just have to be mindfull of your right foot. In fact, it rolls down the highway at 80mph without even breaking a sweat! The cornering is absolutely amazing! Having never driven one of these before, I was expecting typical late 80's Cadillac slop. The first time you turn the wheel, you will be reminded that this is an Italian designed car. When these cars were new, they sold for about twice the amount of a new Corvette! Production was very limited during the few years these cars were made which makes them very collectable. The "Pininfarina" badge is prominently displayed in and around the car letting you know this cars pedigree from other domestic cars. These were definitely exclusive cars in their day. I am a wholesaler of cars but this one I had a hard time putting up for sale. I have a soft spot for low production American sports cars but I just can't keep it. My garage is full and my driveway is always packed...maybe the next one will be a keeper. The transmission can be found on ebay or elsewhere for about $300. The window motor is about $50. I'm not sure what you'd have into rebuilding the amplifier or some of the other miscellaneous things you may run into. Being at almost "cult" status, there are several websites, clubs and companys dedicated to honoring, preserving and restoring these great cars. The availability of new, new old stock and rebuilt parts for such a limited car is truly a testiment to the significance of thses cars. Even being out of production for almost twenty years, this car still turns heads going down the highway. Try a google search for "allante" and see what all is out there. I will be happy to answer any questions about this great car. I can have a transmission installed should you want that. Labor would be about $300 and the trans would be about $300. Thanks for looking and good luck.
