Vehicle Detail

1997 Subaru Legacy Postal Wagon Factory Right Hand Drive - All Wheel Drive 131,887 miles If you have any questions after fully reading this description, feel free to contact me through eBay's messaging system, or you can contact Mike @ 801-376-8990. I want to make sure all your questions are answered so there are no surprises for either of us. I have tried to take several pictures detailing every part of the vehicle, but let me know if there's something else you want a picture of that I missed. 50 pictures at bottom of page. This is a factory RHD Subaru Legacy Postal Wagon AWD with a 2.2L 4 cylinder engine. The interior is in quite good condition for a postal vehicle. There is a mail tray in place of the passenger seat. I still have the passenger seat and I will include it with the car in case you want it for any reason. I just replaced the driver seat that was commpletely worn out with a nearly new and firm seat. The back seat is still in place and has no rips or tears and looks very good. There is a crack in the bottom right of the bumper. In the pictures, you'll notice the front right corner of the bumper is sagging a little. The screw holding the bumper to the fender had worked itself loose and came out. This has been pulled up and resecured, and is now flush with the front right quarter panel on the side. There is still a very small gap between the bottom of the front right headlight and the bumper below. The outside has some dings and scratches like any postal vehicle, but it's all cosmetic. There is no body rust whatsoever. Most of the scratches you see in the pictures are simply scratches of the clearcoat. If you rub your fingernail along them, the damaged clearcoat rubs off and the paint shows underneath. There were a few very small dings on the driver side door that went through red layer of paint from the corner of a CBU door hitting the car door, but any scratches that went through the red coat have been touched up with rust-preventive paint to prevent any corrosion. To the best of my knowledge, the car has never been smoked in - no smoke smell, no burns, etc. The car runs great mechanically. The engine runs strong and smooth and has great compression (i.e. the interior engine seals, specifically with the pistons, are in good shape - no leaks to reduce compression). The transmission shifts smoothly in all gears as well. The only leak I have been able to find is a very small leak around the hose coming out of the power steering fluid reservoir. I replaced the reservoir (which is one unit with the pump), but I didn't have any new hoses/clamps. Replacing just the reservoir may still have fixed the leak, but in any case, it was never a big enough leak to even see any drops underneath the vehicle, there is just a noticeable ooze around the hose. All the lights and accessories work, such as A/C, hazards, blinkers, power locks, power windows, stereo, all dash gauges, wipers, washer fluid, etc. There have been no issues with the odometer, as I have seen noted on other older vehicles, so 131,887 miles should be a correct representation. I have to put a plug in for the amazing AWD of the Subaru Legacy. Living in Utah where we get a good amount of snow during the winter, I couldn't see myself driving any different vehicle to deliver mail in. Having available 4WD in a Jeep is one thing, but having all-time AWD means that you'll have the control of all 4 wheels whenever you need it, even in unanticipated circumstances. I suppose 4WD is better than nothing, but the convenience of not having to get out in the snow/slush to lock my hubs, and not having to take my vehicle out of 4WD when I'm on asphalt has been awesome, and a huge time saver, not to mention it keeps my feet dry. The AWD functions flawlessly, and gives the car amazing traction in loose/wet/slippery road conditions. There were numerous occasions over the past few winters where having AWD meant not having to call someone to tow me out of deep snow, or not having to park on the plowed street at every box and traipse through 1+ ft. deep snow to get up to the mailbox. It has been a lifesaver, and I wouldn't buy another delivery vehicle without AWD, that is for certain. The rear tires are at about 50% tread. The front left is pretty worn and will need to be replaced soon. The front right is brand new. There is a spare tire included that is pretty worn too, but it will work to get you back home if you get a flat (currently, and in the pictures, the spare tire is on the front right and the brand new tire is in the trunk). Brakes have a lot of material left, and work well as far as pulling even and not vibrating as you would otherwise find if a car had warped rotors or damaged calipers. The Owner's Manual and the original jack set with lug nut wrench is included. RECENTLY REPAIRED ITEMS: I replaced the left CV axle back in March, the power steering pump in July, the driver seat in July, and the two front accessory belts (alternator and air conditioning) in July. I have always done regular oil changes and made sure all fluids are topped off. The thermostat was also replaced last summer and radiator flushed with new coolant added. According to the person I bought the vehicle from, the timing belt was replaced before I bought it (with 117,000 miles), however I don't know the exact mileage at which it was replaced. The only two things that I'm aware of that will need fixing in the future are: 1. The windshield has a long crack along the bottom (see pictures). It's not in my line of view, but a disgruntled mechanic may flag you on it in a safety inspection. This would probably be dependent upon who you took it to and their opinion. Some shops may just mark it as "Advise" to have it fixed, but will still pass you so you can register the vehicle. 2. The right CV boot is torn, but the axle and joint so far are still working well. I bought this vehicle with the left axle already knocking, and it went two more years before it completely went out. So, I'd say the right axle will easily go another 2+ years as well since there seems to be no sign of the joint wearing out yet. I haven't had time to fix the CV axle and windshield yet, but if getting these parts repaired is a major concern for you then e-mail me and let me know and we may be able to work something out to have them fixed before the car is shipped out or picked up. I can get a CV axle for around $100 and a good used windshield for $50-75. Aside from these prices, I would be willing to fix them for minimal labor costs compared to what you'd pay at a mechanic shop. PAYMENT & SHIPPING: Buyer is responsible for arranging shipping with a courier if shipping is necessary. However, I will assist by delivering the car to a nearby shipping zone or something of the sort. A $500 deposit via PayPal is required within 24 hours of auction close. The remaining amount will be due within 7 days either by cash in person or cashier's check. I will also accept PayPal for the remaining amount, however, you must add an additional 3% of the remaining amount owed to your PayPal payment. I would like the vehicle to be picked up within 7 days, however, if you have extenuating circumstances that make this difficult for you, let me know and we will be able to work something out. You'll notice in these pictures that my registration expired in 5/09. The car has not been sitting and collecting dust since this time. I simply have not re-registered it due to a notice I received in my office stating that postal vehicles performing federal services (i.e. delivering mail, NOT driving to/from work) are exempt from state registration. This car has been a faithful daily driver up until the end of this August when I transferred to an office where I now use an LLV.
